My favourite smell is that of plumeria. There is just something so addictive about the smell that I can never seem to get enough of it. I don't mean the artificial perfumes...I mean the real flowers.
For a lighter question. What's your favourite smell? I'm pretty sure that Hawaii Jake might agree with me.
We have so many fragrances here in these beautiful islands. It is wonderful. I live in the country, and I usually drive with the windows down. I often get a whiff of wild ginger that is very sweet.
Plumeria is lovely, but many mainlanders find it overpowering when worn as a lei.
Pikake flowers are not seen in the wild that much, but if only one person is wearing a pikake lei in a room, it will fill every nook and cranny. It's a heavy floral scent.
This last one is my favorite.
In any event, the air here often smells of flowers even in the middle of town. It's paradise.

Tied to my first memory,laying in my playpen near an open window, I could see the sun and shadows playing on the wall, see the leaves moving ,hear the the whispering of them, could feel the warmth of the sun on my hand. One of the few times in my life I was absolutely at peace and happy.

I was at a dinner party last Saturday night, and my friend has these beautiful terraced gardens. And there was a fragrant mint that was wafting in the evening air while we enjoyed each others company under the beautiful starlit sky. I wonder if anyone else noticed?

Best place in NZ for decorations?
I have been in NZ for 7 years now and this year I finally decided to get into the Christmas spirit. We have a wee flat so I got a small artificial tree (my fiancee complains about fresh flowers never mind a whole tree!). where is the best place to get good quality reasonably priced decorations for my wee tree save the warehouse and spotlight? looking for soemthign unusual?

DIY wedding teardrop bouquets?
what kind of holder would i need etc and any tips would be great. i am making a hydrangea artificial bouquet because the flowers arnt out at the time of my wedding and no one makes hydrangeas in a tear drop..

Hydrangea bouquets in a tear drop shape are going to be rare because it is very difficult to get hydranges (big and round) to be any shape but round.
Using artificial flowers will actually make this easier for you because you can trim the flowers to fit the shape you imagine.
--- if you trimmed a fresh hydrangea that small it probably wouldnt be sturdy enough to survive. ----------

What you want to do is wrap all the stems with floral tape. You will stretch it slightly as you wrap %26amp; that will cause the tape to adhere to itself.
If the stems aren't long enough you need to add some floral wire to them. Do this to the leaves, as well.
Then you will assemble the bouquet. Place the flowers in a pleasing design, from the side it will look like half a ball. Then add flowers to make the teardrop shape. When you get it to where you like it, remove the flowers one at a time, dip them in some white glue %26amp; re-insert the stems into the holder.
Visit Michael's or a Hobby Lobby %26amp; take a look at some of their floral books, to get some ideas and more info.
Reply:You just place them in the holder and it sticks in the oasis. You will not have a problem...I just bought awhole bunch of pink and green hydrangeas I love them...you can also use artificial flower glue so you know they will stick and stay.

I have propagated many different kinds over the years and loved the slow growing aspect of most of them. plus they are very easy to care for. but very interesting to watch grow. and a lot of them have flowers too.
of course I love flowering plants but these take more care and you have to arrange your garden or house so you have a flowering plant for that season of the year. more work but beautiful

The flowering plants have to be outside because I'm allergic to pollen, also they tend to need watering, and I'm terrible at remembering to water them so I rely on the rain. My lack of care is why I have cacti's inside, they're harder to kill (though I have managed it.)

Last month, my doctor put me on a low/no carb diet. I haven't had any bread, fruit, juice, rice, or pasta. No milk or yogurt. No cake, cookies, soda- not even a small hard candy or mint. No artificial sweeteners or alcohol either. Just lean protein and vegetables.
Well, over the weekend I had 3 pieces of wedding cake with mass quantities of delicious buttercream frosting - I even ate the decorative buttercream flowers- yum!. (I had a piece Friday night and 2 more pieces on Sunday).
First, I woke up Saturday with a rotten headache, feeling hungover. In a pissy mood all day.
Then, about 2 hours after my Sunday splurge, I went for a walk and had a huge panic attack. My heart was racing, I got all confused and scared, I thought I was going to faint-- and I was like, shoot, how am I going to get home??? (I had to walk back home about a mile, all weirded out.)
Today I'm irritable and impatient, with a slight headache. Has sugar effected you like this after going sugar-free for weeks?

Your body is no longer used to it, you went wayyy over board on the cake and your body is sucking it all up and going over the top, this is why we do not give new born babies sugar, their bodies have not adjusted yet so if you fed them cake for a day they're going to bounding full of energy have headaches and be irritable once their sugar hit begins to crash it is not good for you, think twice next time before going near anything your doctor told you not to have.

Well their only real point is usually "Meat is tasty" - fair enough a lot of people enjoy the taste of meat - but there are plenty of delicious alternatives (just consider the huge range of vegetarian dishes in Indian cooking - one of the oldest %26amp; most sophisticated cuisines in the world) and if you really crave meat %26amp; dairy, nowadays there are plenty of healthy non animal alternatives - just look in the supermarket %26amp; health food shop. So I hope you will agree it's pretty pathetic to consider all the evidence %26amp; then say "well I know you're right about the environment %26amp; health %26amp; the animals - but I just love my meat"

Can you name some reasons to go vegetarian?
You know if this was 5 different post or so, I might have read this. Yahoo Answers isn't the best place to post something that huge. Break it down more to several different post. Its too ahrd to read all that here. Sounds like alot of good information though.
Reply:I've already read all of those reasons somewhere else, but I really only need one reason. What Michael H said. The way I see it, if it's unnecessary to murder animals for our survival and well being, then it is also unjustifiable.
Like George Bernard Shaw said: "Animals are my friends, and I don't eat my friends", and Isaac Bashevis Singer, when asked if he had become a vegetarian for health reasons, replied: "I did it for the health of the chickens."
Knowing that I'm not contributing to support the industries that damage our planet the most and all other reasons just make me feel all the better.

For me, my decision was simply that I did not want to eat animals. I think that being able to torture and kill for pleasure shows good reasons to fear for our society, and I personally could no longer be a part of that system.
I have also become very happy the more I have learned about how much better for the environment my lifestyle is.
I heard people say before that there is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist, but I dismissed it.
The difference in environmental impact between flesh-eating and non-flesh-eating diets is astounding. I have always recycled, but it is nice to know that I do even more to lower my garbage and carbon footprints.
But as I said, knowing I was hurting and killing beings who could think and feel was the main reason I became vegetarian.

Your arguments are weak and full of holes. You cannot achieve "full vegetarianism" without force which you do not advocate. You pretend to be for the humane treatment of animals but your only solution is your religious advocacy of not eating meat rather than supporting those who do not treat animals poorly.
You lump meat eaters and lacto-oval vegetarians together when it suits your weak arguments, then you argue against eggs, milk and butter when you want to make another point.
You fail to appreciate complex political and economic problems such as food as a weapon and other issues, instead asking us to engage in a religious vegetarian diet to "fix everything".

But this argumentation is terribly weak. Much starvation is caused by political instability, food as a weapon in warfare, poor distribution infrastructures and ethnic conflict. In Africa food was used as a weapon, as well as being re-sold to finance weapons in one conflict, causing a great deal of starvation. It's not that the food wasn't there - it just couldn't get to the people it was meant to feed. Being a vegetarian would have meant JACK **** to stopping starvation. Perhaps we should send them guns instead?
As for land displacement, this too is mostly a political and economic problem. Those who are weak have their land taken from them. If it's not for a cattle farming its for a "vegetarian" cash crop like cotton, cocoa or other "vegetarian friendly" products. The problem is that the weak are run over by the strong. Vegetarianism would only shift the nature of the exploitation, not stop it.
You slop in five or six other arguments under this heading, but they have similar rational/logical problems.
LAND
Soil erosion, desertification and poor land management? Blame your democracy for that. If your voters aren't electing people to protect your land then you are screwed. They might as well be creating massive soy production facilities as anything. Untrammeled economic force is the problem, not meat eating.

In the rest of the world the only vegetarians are religious or are so poor they can't afford the meat they'd like to have.

Central American politics are massively manipulated by the huge drug trade, corruption, and "low intensity conflict" done in the name of anti-communism and other suspect causes.
Are you saying that we should dictate to multiple central American nations how they should manage their land? What incentives are to be made? Or is this again another hidden appeal to force? Shall we force them to not destroy their lands? If we become vegetarian and they don't stop raising cattle ... what then?
In the US you have the same corrupt effect of democracy: if the citizens let business run-amok then what? Are we to overturn democracy? Establish a vegetarian dictatorship?

Yes, cattle farming causes problems but you fail to mention how much of the problem they represent. Is it significant? I would suggest that it pales in comparison to automobile, gasoline engine exhaust, and coal power plants. You are attacking a minor problem, while ignoring major course of air pollution. Thus, vegetarianism as a "solution" to air problems is irrelevant.
WATER
Again this is a land management issue. I'll ask you this: if it could be done efficiently - so that the effluent went into compost or was contained appropriately, would you be for it? Moreover, you fail to indicate what land measures you would take. Simply attacking meat eating doesn't ensure that other offenses against water don't take place. And again to significance you don't mention whether there aren't more problematic sources of water pollution: such as heavy metals from industrial production.
EFFICIENCY
You complain about inefficiency, but then note that animals are treated inhumanely to prevent movement:

It sounds like animal farmers are listening to you. Don't you want humane inefficient treatment?

Cattle consumption pre-dates our gas driven industry. The Cattle is mentioned in the Irish Cattle Raid of Cooley, and the Americans moved steers across the country without gas. The link to gas is a modern aspect and is not intrinsic to meat eating. What if everyone simply ate chickens grown in their own back yards? Would you be ok with that?

So then you support non-factory farmed animals? They are out there. Do you support them? If so, why don't you mention it? If you are really out to support humane animal treatment it behooves you to identify and call for the support of human, non-factory farmed livestocks.

This is a nonsense statistic. Cite your source. Vegetarians may be people who take care of themselves for other reasons, don't smoke, exercise more and so on. In other words, compare "healthy meat eaters" who don't smoke, exercise, and so on to " healthy vegetarians" and you might have something. Vegetarians, in the US at least, represent a minority. The majority of the very unwell are going to be lumped in the non-vegetarian numbers. Look at mortality rates of nations which are vegetarian - assuming you can find any - and even then its problematic to pull out causality.

Not necessarily. You can be a "twinkie vegetarian". There is nothing intrinsically healthy about not eating meat. It is hard to get a lot of cholesterol but that's about it, and eggs and whole milk/cream might do that for ya too.

We recently had a spate of food poisonings in vegetables. You can get salmonella poisoning on a vegetarian diet.

Reply:Impressive stats.. took ages to read. The point that you missed was the psyche of a Vegetarian. Lets not get soppy or sentimental about it . We choose to become vegetarians for various reasons. Mine was empathy, pure and simple. No health crud or anything in that vein made me turn. This is the way I am. The truth be known at my age I am extremely fit and healthy, my weight has been below average for my height since I was a kid of 19. I have been a vegetarian for 45 years and do not take pills or supplements for deficiencies. Favorite foods pasta, rice, potatoes and any type of fruit.

I am not a veggies but I certainly can see the benefits of eating that way as to health. With that said I certainly have cut way back on my meat consumption. But I love chicken and fish and don't buy in to all the other arguments.

Reply:I have a pet parrot - now, I am against having a bird confined in a cage - the only reason I got her is because she is a rescued bird. She came from an abused home. I spoil her, sing songs to her, and buy her toys and dance with her...
My parrot likes to be kissed on the beak and when I kiss her beak it is warm. One time I had the tip of her beak filed just a little bit cuz it was very sharp and the bird store said to have it done so when she bites she doesn't draw blood. Well, after just a tiny bit of the tip was filed down it started bleeding. Birds have blood and nerve ending in their beaks... Birds use their beaks like a hand - they pick up their food with it. They use their beak to clean their feathers. They use their beaks to clean their friends feathers. They are very loving animals and many birds mate for life. I no longer get her beak filed - she has wood blocks to chew on now.
I was concerned about my weight and my health - and that's when I read Skinny ******. In the book I read about how the chickens have their beaks seared off with a hot blade. And it just broke my heart - to think that someone would do that to my Jypsi... If it isn't right for it to be done to Jypsi then it can't be right to happen to any bird. Even chickens.
I also realised that I never look at my dog and my bird as tonights dinner - so why should I look at any other animal that way?
I'm a vegan and that way for life now. It sickens me to think of eating animals or anything made from animals. Or even buying leather or any thing like it. I never feel tempted to eat meat - If anything I feel really sorry for all the animals that had to suffer and die for my food. If people only knew the truth that you so clearly stated above - everyone would be vegan.

If you've read this far, I hope that you are beginning to see that the Meat %26amp; Dairy industry is a major contributor to misery on this planet. It is destroying the health of people in rich countries, starving those in poor countries, it is torturing %26amp; killing billions of animals every year and in the meantime it is one of the major factors in the destruction of the environment - so what does the meat %26amp; dairy industry have to say in it's defence?
Well their only real point is usually "Meat is tasty" - fair enough a lot of people enjoy the taste of meat - but there are plenty of delicious alternatives (just consider the huge range of vegetarian dishes in Indian cooking - one of the oldest %26amp; most sophisticated cuisines in the world) and if you really crave meat %26amp; dairy, nowadays there are plenty of healthy non animal alternatives - just look in the supermarket %26amp; health food shop. So I hope you will agree it's pretty pathetic to consider all the evidence %26amp; then say "well I know you're right about the environment %26amp; health %26amp; the animals - but I just love my meat"

Can you name some reasons to go vegetarian?
You know if this was 5 different post or so, I might have read this. Yahoo Answers isn't the best place to post something that huge. Break it down more to several different post. Its too ahrd to read all that here. Sounds like alot of good information though.
Reply:I've already read all of those reasons somewhere else, but I really only need one reason. What Michael H said. The way I see it, if it's unnecessary to murder animals for our survival and well being, then it is also unjustifiable.
Like George Bernard Shaw said: "Animals are my friends, and I don't eat my friends", and Isaac Bashevis Singer, when asked if he had become a vegetarian for health reasons, replied: "I did it for the health of the chickens."
Knowing that I'm not contributing to support the industries that damage our planet the most and all other reasons just make me feel all the better.

For me, my decision was simply that I did not want to eat animals. I think that being able to torture and kill for pleasure shows good reasons to fear for our society, and I personally could no longer be a part of that system.
I have also become very happy the more I have learned about how much better for the environment my lifestyle is.
I heard people say before that there is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist, but I dismissed it.
The difference in environmental impact between flesh-eating and non-flesh-eating diets is astounding. I have always recycled, but it is nice to know that I do even more to lower my garbage and carbon footprints.
But as I said, knowing I was hurting and killing beings who could think and feel was the main reason I became vegetarian.

Your arguments are weak and full of holes. You cannot achieve "full vegetarianism" without force which you do not advocate. You pretend to be for the humane treatment of animals but your only solution is your religious advocacy of not eating meat rather than supporting those who do not treat animals poorly.
You lump meat eaters and lacto-oval vegetarians together when it suits your weak arguments, then you argue against eggs, milk and butter when you want to make another point.
You fail to appreciate complex political and economic problems such as food as a weapon and other issues, instead asking us to engage in a religious vegetarian diet to "fix everything".
You identify problems with land management, ocean protection and other areas but suggest that we can just engage in the magic bullet of not eating meat to "solve everything" - definitely religious thinking.
In short your arguments are stupid and weak, poorly thought out and badly argued.

But this argumentation is terribly weak. Much starvation is caused by political instability, food as a weapon in warfare, poor distribution infrastructures and ethnic conflict. In Africa food was used as a weapon, as well as being re-sold to finance weapons in one conflict, causing a great deal of starvation. It's not that the food wasn't there - it just couldn't get to the people it was meant to feed. Being a vegetarian would have meant JACK **** to stopping starvation. Perhaps we should send them guns instead?
As for land displacement, this too is mostly a political and economic problem. Those who are weak have their land taken from them. If it's not for a cattle farming its for a "vegetarian" cash crop like cotton, cocoa or other "vegetarian friendly" products. The problem is that the weak are run over by the strong. Vegetarianism would only shift the nature of the exploitation, not stop it.
You slop in five or six other arguments under this heading, but they have similar rational/logical problems.
LAND
Soil erosion, desertification and poor land management? Blame your democracy for that. If your voters aren't electing people to protect your land then you are screwed. They might as well be creating massive soy production facilities as anything. Untrammeled economic force is the problem, not meat eating.

The only way you'd get this is by force. Are you suggesting the use of force to make people vegetarian? Not explicitly, but I am suspicious if that wouldn't be the case. In the rest of the world the only vegetarians are religious or are so poor they can't afford the meat they'd like to have.

Central American politics are massively manipulated by the huge drug trade, corruption, and "low intensity conflict" done in the name of anti-communism and other suspect causes.

Shall we force them to not destroy their lands? If we become vegetarian and they don't stop raising cattle ... what then?
In the US you have the same corrupt effect of democracy: if the citizens let business run-amok then what? Are we to overturn democracy? Establish a vegetarian dictatorship?

Yes, cattle farming causes problems but you fail to mention how much of the problem they represent. Is it significant? I would suggest that it pales in comparison to automobile, gasoline engine exhaust, and coal power plants. You are attacking a minor problem, while ignoring major course of air pollution. Thus, vegetarianism as a "solution" to air problems is irrelevant.
WATER
Again this is a land management issue. I'll ask you this: if it could be done efficiently - so that the effluent went into compost or was contained appropriately, would you be for it? Moreover, you fail to indicate what land measures you would take. Simply attacking meat eating doesn't ensure that other offenses against water don't take place. And again to significance you don't mention whether there aren't more problematic sources of water pollution: such as heavy metals from industrial production.
EFFICIENCY
You complain about inefficiency, but then note that animals are treated inhumanely to prevent movement:

It sounds like animal farmers are listening to you. Don't you want humane inefficient treatment?

Cattle consumption pre-dates our gas driven industry. The Cattle is mentioned in the Irish Cattle Raid of Cooley, and the Americans moved steers across the country without gas. The link to gas is a modern aspect and is not intrinsic to meat eating. What if everyone simply ate chickens grown in their own back yards? Would you be ok with that?

You are talking about corrupt democratic politics. There is plenty of corruption in non-meat subsidies here in the US as well. You object only to one kind of corruption, but not if they are "veggie corrupt"? How do you stop such powerful economic forces from continuing to do what they want?

Your veggie crops use petrol/gas just like meat crops, if even at a lower rate. They also use water, pesticides and so on. Moreover, once produced there is no guarantee it won't be used as an additive to gasoline (ethanol for example).

We recently had a spate of food poisonings in vegetables. You can get salmonella poisoning on a vegetarian diet.

So I hope you will agree it's pretty pathetic to consider all the evidence %26amp; then say "well I know you're right about the environment %26amp; health %26amp; the animals - but I just love my meat"
Your arguments are weak and full of holes. You cannot achieve "full vegetarianism" without force which you do not advocate. You pretend to be for the humane treatment of animals but your only solution is your religious advocacy of not eating meat rather than supporting those who do not treat animals poorly.
You lump meat eaters and lacto-oval vegetarians together when it suits your weak arguments, then you argue against eggs, milk and butter when you want to make another point.
You fail to appreciate complex political and economic problems such as food as a weapon and other issues, instead asking us to engage in a religious vegetarian diet to "fix everything".
You identify problems with land management, ocean protection and other areas but suggest that we can just engage in the magic bullet of not eating meat to "solve everything" - definitely religious thinking.

Reply:Impressive stats.. took ages to read. The point that you missed was the psyche of a Vegetarian. Lets not get soppy or sentimental about it . We choose to become vegetarians for various reasons. Mine was empathy, pure and simple. No health crud or anything in that vein made me turn. This is the way I am. The truth be known at my age I am extremely fit and healthy, my weight has been below average for my height since I was a kid of 19. I have been a vegetarian for 45 years and do not take pills or supplements for deficiencies. Favorite foods pasta, rice, potatoes and any type of fruit.

My parrot likes to be kissed on the beak and when I kiss her beak it is warm. One time I had the tip of her beak filed just a little bit cuz it was very sharp and the bird store said to have it done so when she bites she doesn't draw blood. Well, after just a tiny bit of the tip was filed down it started bleeding. Birds have blood and nerve ending in their beaks... Birds use their beaks like a hand - they pick up their food with it. They use their beak to clean their feathers. They use their beaks to clean their friends feathers. They are very loving animals and many birds mate for life. I no longer get her beak filed - she has wood blocks to chew on now.
I was concerned about my weight and my health - and that's when I read Skinny ******. In the book I read about how the chickens have their beaks seared off with a hot blade. And it just broke my heart - to think that someone would do that to my Jypsi... If it isn't right for it to be done to Jypsi then it can't be right to happen to any bird. Even chickens.
I also realised that I never look at my dog and my bird as tonights dinner - so why should I look at any other animal that way?
I'm a vegan and that way for life now. It sickens me to think of eating animals or anything made from animals. Or even buying leather or any thing like it. I never feel tempted to eat meat - If anything I feel really sorry for all the animals that had to suffer and die for my food. If people only knew the truth that you so clearly stated above - everyone would be vegan.

I'm going to be sending a gift to my girlfriend in the mail, but first I need about fifty rose pedals (or more) to write individual words on. The key word here is cheap -- so artificial rose pedals would work, or perhaps another flower in purple, blue or yellow?
Would I get these at a crafting shop? Also, if I do go for artificial, what can I do to make them soft to the touch like a rose pedal would be?

Artificial rose petals are available in all the major craft stores in the wedding section. There is nothing you can do to them to soften them up without the chance of messing them up. You want them to have some body so you can write on them. Have you seen the iron on expressions offered at the craft stores? They might be nice to iron on some of the petals. Make sure you see what the petals are made of, and they can take the heat.
Reply:At the craft store (or a paper store) look for "vellum" -- it's transluscent paper -- you can cut it into the petal shape you want with scissors. Write on it with a gold or silver metallic pen (which you can also find at the craft store.)
The other thing that might be pretty (and still carry out the rose theme) is handmade paper -- sold either in sheets as stationery or as gift wrap -- that has dried rose petals embedded in it. Again, cut this paper into leaf or petal shapes and write with the metallic pen. The paper looks like this, and you can find it at nice papers stores and card stores (like Papyrus).

Light source for dendrobium orchid?
Hi,
I bought a plant section for a Dendrobium orchid Nobile - leaves and stalks with roots, no flowers.
Anyway, the root are growing but I notice that whenever I put it beside a window, instead of standing upright, the whole thing bends sideways to face the window, and it looks really dumb!
Do they have to recieve lighting directly from above? If so, is artificial lighting good enough?

90% of flowers in my shop are artificial ones.. the balance are fresh flowers like chrysantumum and ect. theres so much of flies and i find it so hard to get rid of it..it sits mostly on my fresh flowers.. weird.. suggestions please..Thanks!

If they are tiny and look like fruit flies or gnats, you might have drain flies. Drain flies breed in drains, compost buckets, and other such things, but are also attracted to flowers and fruits...and mouthwash, as I have just discovered.
Do a google on drain flies and see if this is what they might be. You'll also find some home treatment remedies if you don't want to go the exterminator route.
You can also set out a jar of vinegar and honey (or, mouthwash), and this will attract them and hopefully help keep them off your plants until you can find the source of the problem and eradicate them.

It's bad for the flowers anyway but more important to your problem is the fact that flies love decaying plant matter just as much as they love other forms of rot. I have to be so careful with cut flowers in the summer. Don't just add more water, drain the old stuff and keep the containers clean. A mild bleach solution and a good rinse works well..

Buy Insecticidal soap which comes in a spray bottle and spray the tops and bottoms of leaves on the live plants. Spray the soils' too.
Set small containers of lids or bowls of vinegar around your shop. Most of these small plant flies will go to the vinegar and be trapped or die.

Is this consummate professionalism?
Nearing the end of a performance of Cyrano, his nose fell off and I deftly kicked it stage left, into the wings. He rushed off to have it glued back and returned a little while later with flowers as if that's why he left. Meanwhile I hummed a pretty ditty while trimmimg the artificial roses. Critics were in that night but we had convinced them and the entire house that it was all part of the piece.

Needless to say, the audience burst into another fit of laughter. During the next scene break, they sent out the black actor playing one of the family servants with a dustpan and a whiskboom, and he swept up the errant hairpiece. I actually saw this one during a performance of Lillian Hellman's "The Little Foxes" up at ACT in San Francisco. One of the characters slapped another across the face, at which point one of the guy's glued-on mutton-chop sideburns was launched skyward, making a slow, lazy arc across the stage, where it landed in a furry little heap. The audience, after a moment's silence, erupted in hysterical laughter. The actors never flinched; they held their intentions during the laughter, glowering at each other, at which point the actor who'd been slapped spoke his next line:
"I'll never forgive you for that!"
Needless to say, the audience burst into another fit of laughter. During the next scene break, they sent out the black actor playing one of the family servants with a dustpan and a whiskboom, and he swept up the errant hairpiece. The next time that actor came onstage, BOTH of his sideburns were missing!

Where do I buy stuffed animals (and other arts and crafts items) at wholesale prices?
My mom has a home-bussiness making artificial flower arrangements and stuffed animal arrangements, and I'm trying to find somewhere she can buy her materials for a cheaper price. For example, right now she's making Christmas Wreaths and we had to go buy them at Michael's for 5 bucks. We took advantage of the Black Tuesday Sales and were able to buy them for around 2bucks after coupons and everything. The thing is, I'm sure Michael's is still making a profit off of the wreaths even selling them for 2bucks, so where do THEY buy them? The same with the Teddy bears...even though we shop after Valentines or mother's day when the bears are usually half off, they're still expensive!! So, my question is, does anybody know where I can buy these items at a wholesale price??? Obviously I'd have to buy hundreds, but I think we would do it, since my mom uses so many throughout the year. I appreciate the help.

If there was a website that sold small, wooden chests personalized with the names or initials of each member of your bridal party handpainted on the tops, would you be interested in purchasing them? What about wooden plaques with names or images burnt into the wood? Also what would you consider to be a reasonable price?
Would you purchase handmade invitations online? What would you be willing to pay?
Would you mail order custom artificial flower arrangements such as bouquets? What would you pay for these?

Flowers -tons of people selling on ebay. Almost bought some, but the cost wasn't much less than real ones.
Take a look for these items on ebay. You can watch them to see what they sell for and how many items get sold.
Not to say you couldn't do it, but I think your best venue is to go to local craft shows and use the "locally hand made" angle.

I think of poinsettias for Christmas, but not all winter. I would actually go back to the roses once Christmas has past since Valentine's Day is known for roses. And by the way, there are quality silk flowers out there that do look like real flowers. You just can't find them at the dollar store.

I have a real tree that is flocked with snow and I decorated it with Pince cones I sprayed with snow and added some silver glitter

This year, we have an artificial (expensive, looks good) tree. I do love real trees, but, as I age, it becomes easier to manage a good looking faux tree. My grandson was so excited, as he and the rest of my family all got together to decorate the tree with all golden ornaments. An angel is atop the tree, as we always want an angel up there. My grandson and I (he's 6) picked out a wonderful snowman that is really tall, and he lights up, along with 2 penquins that light up really nicely, as well. Then, my grandson and I picked out Santa Clause and Snowmen to hang around the inside of the house, to make my grandson happy. My grandson and I bought another Nativity set, so, my grandson could tell me the story of Jesus' birth, as we set it up on the dining room table, along with red table runners that are flecked with gold and have tassles. The Angel atop our tree looks very pretty, as she is about 18" tall, and just fits, actually touching the ceiling. She is golden and wine colored, as our room has a wine colored carpet. It all looks great, and my grandson and I continue to add moving, music making snowmen, and other Santas that talk and sing. It's all very festive, and my grandson is in awe. every day. He loves to be the one to turn on the moving, lit, singing, caroling, talking Santas and snowmen, and caroling children dressed in velvets and golden trims. Christmas gift bags are all over under the tree and on and on throughout the room. (It's a 500 sq. foot room, very large).................it's a wonderful setting that we totally enjoy. Our Sidewalk to our door is decorated with stakes that are Christmas signs that say welcome with different decorations on them. We enjoy Christmas so much! Having my grandson help to pick out the ornaments and decorations is such a joy. I'm a lucky person! Merry Christmas!

Reply:Yes. We have real and artificial. lots of lights, and ornaments. Many of them have personal meanings, such as some of the are made by family members, other have the pictures of some of us. The most important part of the decoration is the nativity.
We have lighted reindeer in the front of the house, Santa is in the house, lighted housed in the kitchen, dried flowers, some of them made by my eldest sister, and the Christmas cards are displayed for all to see.

Outside we have lights on our house for the kids and Santa decals on the glass door.

I have a real tree that is flocked with snow and I decorated it with Pince cones I sprayed with snow and added some silver glitter
I also used dried Christmas Flowers with Sliver and Gold and Blue lights
I have a lighted reindeer a Santa in the window and a decorated wreath with lights on the front door

Do you have a Christmas tree? Is it real or Artificial? Also did you decorate your house?
This year, we have an artificial (expensive, looks good) tree. I do love real trees, but, as I age, it becomes easier to manage a good looking faux tree. My grandson was so excited, as he and the rest of my family all got together to decorate the tree with all golden ornaments. An angel is atop the tree, as we always want an angel up there. My grandson and I (he's 6) picked out a wonderful snowman that is really tall, and he lights up, along with 2 penquins that light up really nicely, as well. Then, my grandson and I picked out Santa Clause and Snowmen to hang around the inside of the house, to make my grandson happy. My grandson and I bought another Nativity set, so, my grandson could tell me the story of Jesus' birth, as we set it up on the dining room table, along with red table runners that are flecked with gold and have tassles. The Angel atop our tree looks very pretty, as she is about 18" tall, and just fits, actually touching the ceiling. She is golden and wine colored, as our room has a wine colored carpet. It all looks great, and my grandson and I continue to add moving, music making snowmen, and other Santas that talk and sing. It's all very festive, and my grandson is in awe. every day. He loves to be the one to turn on the moving, lit, singing, caroling, talking Santas and snowmen, and caroling children dressed in velvets and golden trims. Christmas gift bags are all over under the tree and on and on throughout the room. (It's a 500 sq. foot room, very large).................it's a wonderful setting that we totally enjoy. Our Sidewalk to our door is decorated with stakes that are Christmas signs that say welcome with different decorations on them. We enjoy Christmas so much! Having my grandson help to pick out the ornaments and decorations is such a joy. I'm a lucky person! Merry Christmas!

Reply:I have an artificial tree and it has a pagan goddess on top. It has red and gold orbs on it, with a cranberry garland. I will be adding bells in keeping with the tradition of the wood spirits.

okay one tacky thing is the tigger at the top where the cliche angel usually goes, we couldn't find the angel, so I stuck my niece's tigger hand puppet up there....

It's funny that so many Christians have "Christmas trees", since the Bible FORBIDS their use, since they are a HEATHEN custom.

Reply:Nothing. No pleasant memories attached to christmas.
Reply:No tree, no lights, just the same old ultra-messy house that happens to be messy and undecorated in December. I do keep Halloween lights on the porch and turn them on from time to time.
Reply:Yes. We have real and artificial. lots of lights, and ornaments. Many of them have personal meanings, such as some of the are made by family members, other have the pictures of some of us. The most important part of the decoration is the nativity.
We have lighted reindeer in the front of the house, Santa is in the house, lighted housed in the kitchen, dried flowers, some of them made by my eldest sister, and the Christmas cards are displayed for all to see.
Dear REDBONE, sorry to read that you didn't have good memories. The great things in life is you are still around and you can make a happy new one.

Caring for a gerbera daisy?
I was just given a potted gerbera daisy and I want to keep it alive as long as I possibly can (I don't usually keep flowers very long). It sits inside under artificial light because my office has no windows. I water my plants twice a week, but I don't want to do the same with this one because I'm afraid of overwatering it. Would once a week be ok? And will it still thrive under the artificial light?
Caring for a gerbera daisy?
The Gerbera is an annual, so it has a growing seaon then dies back, but don't throw it out! It will return year after year. After it's finished blooming (it can bloom for quite a while in ideal conditions; you can plant it in your yard and it will come back.
Average Water Needs; Water regularly; do not overwater. Requires consistently moist soil; do not let dry out between waterings
Reply:Gerbs are extremely sensitive to bacteria, which causes their stems to bend. Watering once a week should be just fine. Though if you find the soil to be a little dry, another watering won't hurt it. Remember to always use fresh, clean water. The artificial light from your office is perfect, since gerbs are sensitive and don't do well in direct sunlight or heat. Also, try to keep your flowers away from any drafts, as they are sensitive to these as well.
Try to keep your gerbera daisy plant free and clean of dust!
If you would like to prolong your gerbs life even more, you could always purchase a flower preservative (ex. aquaplus). Preservatives provide flowers with nutrients and helps prevent against bacteria.
Also, if you ever choose to cut and vase your gerbs -- make sure to thoroughly clean the vase and keep the water clean and fresh. If your daisies start to bend, clean the vase, change the water, and re-cut the stems.
