I have an old brick fireplace with a brick mantel. I have a picture on the brick wall above the mantel and a candle with holder in each of the corners. Now, I would like to put something in front but below the picture. I have some artificial flowers there now, but it's time for a change. Any suggestions?
Suggestions of things to put on a fireplace mantel?
I like to decorate with antiques...my mantel has an antique lantern, an old license plate propped up side ways, an old coca cola serving tray and a small tiny tot red wagon with two little antique rag dolls sitting in it. I have a table runner that my Grandma made hanging off one side. I also wrapped a vine of pip berries around the outer edge of it. I have a candle up there as well that I burn quite often...the scent changes with the seasons...lilac in the summer, pumkin or cinnamon apple in the fall, etc. It's fun to decorate your home in a comfortable and cozy way. Good luck and have fun with it! =)
Reply:You are very welcome! =) I get a lot of compliments on my antiques. You can decorate in so many different ways with them! Report It
Reply:a clock, picture frames, a pair of wooden ducks, either artificial flowers or artificial green plants
Reply:If you could get your hands on a nice piece of driftwood, that would look good.
An oblong short container of maybe ivy or greeny is soothing.
You could get a portait light to spotlight your picture over the mantel.
Reply:anything dale jr
or bears people like bears...blah
Reply:I wouldn't recommend cluttering the mantel with a lot of things. You might want to try a clock or some finials or a pair of small statues. Some people would just change the flower arrangement for the season.
Reply:Take a look around the house for knick-knacks.
Reply:What do you like?
Seasonals decor is great, but in summer and none holiday times, I'd go with something that reflexs your intrests or loves.
Take the fake flowers and burn them. Artifical flowers are the most grotesque thing as far as I'm concerned!
Reply:a mirror
a mantle clock
Reply:Use the space to refill seasonally. Halloween is coming so you can start collecting items ie.put up gourds or a row of mini-pumpkins. If you have kids can put up spooky lil creatures.
