What could I hang on my front door in the spring or summer (like a wreath)?
I have a beautiful vine/red berry wreath that is great for winter, but I have no idea what to put up in warmer weather. I think the red berries look too "wintery" to leave up year-round. I don't care much for artificial flowers, becuase they tend to look so fake and plastic. I can't use fresh and replace when they die, because the front door has a full-glass screen door in front of it, and temperatures between the doors reach too high to allow fresh flowers to look good. I could use dried flowers I suppose, but am not even sure what "base" of wreath to use - I think grapevine and evergreen are too "wintery." I don't want something crafty-looking, but rather an elegant, sophisticated but very welcoming and inviting look. Any suggestions?
What could I hang on my front door in the spring or summer (like a wreath)?
i once saw a really cool wreath made of succulants and air plants. they just needed the mininmal amount of misting every once in awhile. it was a living piece of art that hung on the front door. lasted for a year, owned by negligent, black- thumb types. could last a lot longer if owned by someone even slightly more diligent.
Reply:Martha Stewart's site will have awesome ideas for you!
You could use some fancy, wired ribbon and nest, birds, even bugs for decorations
Reply:on QVCthey have 4 one for each season
Reply:You could do something along the lines of a piece of metal sculpture. Go to one of the big home improvement chains and look at the wire they carry. You'll want something fairly thick but easily pliable, like aluminum. Get enough of it to make a frame that will also be a visible part of the art. Take newspaper and make a frame support in the size and width you want and use it to wrap your wire around . I would do it loosely and in a random pattern with overlaps. Cut your paper out when you're satisfied w/it. Then go looking for metal floral decor. You can find things like this in the same store being sold as hardware for furniture or in craft stores. You can mix it with dry flowers but you'll need to make a strong statement with the dry pieces. Anything too delicate will just be lost. You'll need to wire and glue these to the wreath.

Any ideas on removing hot glue from fabric?
I attached some artificial flowers to a "red hat" that is similar to straw, but it is more like a manmade facric than straw. Any ideas? The hat belongs to someone else. She didn't realize I was going to hot glue the flowers on it. I can't return the hat to her with all the glue on the hat band area. I was able to remove the flowers but the glue lingers on......
Any ideas on removing hot glue from fabric?
Perhaps instead of trying to remove the glue, you could remove and replace the ribbon. I don't know of any method of removing hot glue that doesn't leave some type of mark. Replacing a ribbon would be simpler -- the hardest part will be to match the original, but there are so many colours and widths available your chances are fairly good on finding an acceptable match.
Reply:I wouldnt use nail varnish remover to remove hot glue...I dont believe it would do much. As someone (cabinet maker) who occasionally has use for hot glue I would suggest using near boiling water and some damn thick gloves....water proof gardening gloves maybe?
Try to rinse the glue out. I cant say I have dealt with this problem before - I am only commenting on the basis of what I know about hot glue.
Reply:No not nail polish remover! It can change the dye color!
I would try a hair dryer on a low heat setting and a butter knife to soften the glue and gently try to scrape it off.
If nothing else, a sincere apology and a gift certificate for a new hat would I'm sure be appreciated by your friend.
Reply:Put it in the freezer. For a few hours at least, maybe even overnight. Let the glue get as hard, dry, and cold as possible, and it may chip or peel/break off.
The biggest obstacle is going to be the grain of the ribbon, where the glue may have actually settled in between the threads. Getting it all off, so there is no discoloration, may be impossible. You may want to consider trying to replace the ribbon instead.
Reply:try nail polish remover
Reply:I would suggest you use an iron. Don't use the iron directly on the hat and the glue, as you may burn the hat and make a huge mess. Lay a cloth over the glue on the hat and take an iron over the cloth. This will melt the glue without burning the hat and then you can work on wiping off the glue.

My wedding is 6 weeks away... what kind of flowers should i hold? also should it be natural or artificial?
Real flowers are nice for the day, but starts to die before the end of the festivities.
Unless you have them pressed in a frame by a professional, you just throw them away.
I had artificial flowers. It looked just as nice, and best of all, I can put it in a clear plastic bag and put it on display, forever.
Reply:My bouqet was artificial and I kept it a long time. My mom made it. Depends on what you want. Real are beautiful but they'll die.
Reply:Wish you all the best!
Natural, no doubt.
Light-colored roses (or wild roses) , like champagne, pale pink or pale yellow, would do;)
Reply:I carried and arm bouquet of long white Calla Lillies, real. I threw a fake bouquet that I purchased at the crafts department. The real one died of course, but now on my anniversary my husband tries to replace the bouquet as a symbol of the renewal of his love for me. It was not something you would see everyday for a bride to carry an arm bouquet, but I loved the flowers and everyone else does roses and daisies. Your flowers should reflect you and your tastes.
Reply:Whatever your favorite flower is. It's your day, you should have what you want. And it should be natural.
Reply:ask the guy u r gettin married to its ur combined day
Reply:I agree, they should be your fav flowers. I chose pink lillies that were artificial, so i could keep it forever and looking like the day they did when we got married. Good Luck
Reply:traditional red roses.
its very formal and red looks wonderful when your wearing a suite.
Reply:Natural! theres nothing like the real thing, you can have them pressed for eternity.....colour should co-ordinate with your wedding theme and dress....good lUck
Reply:Natural looks so much nicer...but artificial is more economical. My solution was to use a combination of the two. I like roses. Pick a rose in your favorite color. I had pink roses at my wedding!
Reply:I think the combo of silks and real flowers is a good idea. Certain real flowers can be very pricey, especially if they're not in season and have to be shipped in from across the world. Tulips are in season now, and they're gorgeous and inexpensive. Good luck.
Reply:Since it's your day then you should have exactly what you want and what you think will look the best with your dress. Personally I'm marrying in May also and I've done all my own florals for my wedding to cut costs and I've used silks because I want to keep them afterwards. Today's market offers a wide variety of natural looking silks that you can choose from.
But then again, there is nothing more beautiful than fresh cut flowers, whether it be in a traditional bouquet or a gorgeous fresh cut arm bouquet. Something as simple as going to Walmart or Winn Dixie and picking out different flowers and wrapping the stems with raffia and covering with ribbon can produce a breathtaking bouquet to compliment any blushing bride!
Have fun and best of luck for a wonderful wedding day!

Artificial or real?
My colors for my wedding are going to be red, black, and white. My problem is that I'm thinking of using artificial flowers in some areas of the reception as well as some real flowers. I know its alot cheaper for artificial flowers but can anyone help me as to where I can find artificial flowers that dont look so fake? And is this a good decision?
Artificial or real?
Honestly, I have yet to see any silk flowers anywhere that look even remotely real, even the "high quality" ones which are very expensive. In my research, silk flowers are actually more expensive than real, unless you are having callas or exotic flowers. There a ton of resources for inexpensive real flowers, ranging from wholesale florists to Costco.
Only you can decide if you prefer silks or fresh. I have always preferred fresh because you can't recreate the scent or texture of real flowers. If allergies are a concern, you really don't need to worry about it since flowers that are grown for arrangements have the pollen already removed. I am allergic to fresh cut flowers from the grocery due to the pollen but the same bouquet at the grocery florist doesn't bother me at all for that reason.
Reply:Great decision, Red black and white is an awesome color scheme! Check your local flower shops....I would avoid stores like Michael's and Target....many of their artificial flowers scream "I'm fake"!
Reply:use silk ones... they look less fake.. its all about how you arange them wither they will look fake or not
Reply:Getting silk flowers works well. Be cautious though because some of the silk flowers are actually more expensive than the real ones. Try a florist because they may be able to point you in the direction of a local store that would have a good supply and variety. Good luck!
Reply:You have to do a lot of looking around. I found some at Michaels (the craft store) that looked pretty good. I used real flowers in the areas that would be photographed more (my bouquet and the cake) and artificial flowers everywhere else. They looked really good. Also try Old Time Pottery for artificial flowers.
Reply:I think most places are getting better with the silk flowers.
We are doing silk flowers for all the table centerpieces at my wedding, and table decorations (food, guestbook, gifts, etc). And it is working out nicely.
We are only do real flowers for people really, to save money cause it's 140 people coming and thats a lot of tables we have to decorate.
I think it's a good decision. We got all our flowers just from places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby, but my aunt does floral arangments so she's a big help.
Hope that helps, good luck.
Reply:I'm not quite sure where to find them, sorry! But I can tell you that it is a great decision to integrate both.
And by the way, those would be the wedding colors I would choose as well! GREATTTTT choice, and I wish you a happy marriage!
Reply:I agree with the first post, one trick to saving money on real flowers is to go to the florist and ask whats in season--ordering flowers that are not in season will cost you a pretty penny.
I don't know what they're called, but there is a line of flowers that are made out of a plastic material and look so real! You can find these at a hobby lobby or Michaels...however make sure you buy them a day that they're half off (that will help you save money too)

Suggestions of things to put on a fireplace mantel?
I have an old brick fireplace with a brick mantel. I have a picture on the brick wall above the mantel and a candle with holder in each of the corners. Now, I would like to put something in front but below the picture. I have some artificial flowers there now, but it's time for a change. Any suggestions?
Suggestions of things to put on a fireplace mantel?
I like to decorate with antiques...my mantel has an antique lantern, an old license plate propped up side ways, an old coca cola serving tray and a small tiny tot red wagon with two little antique rag dolls sitting in it. I have a table runner that my Grandma made hanging off one side. I also wrapped a vine of pip berries around the outer edge of it. I have a candle up there as well that I burn quite often...the scent changes with the seasons...lilac in the summer, pumkin or cinnamon apple in the fall, etc. It's fun to decorate your home in a comfortable and cozy way. Good luck and have fun with it! =)

Reply:a clock, picture frames, a pair of wooden ducks, either artificial flowers or artificial green plants
Reply:If you could get your hands on a nice piece of driftwood, that would look good.
An oblong short container of maybe ivy or greeny is soothing.
You could get a portait light to spotlight your picture over the mantel.

Reply:I wouldn't recommend cluttering the mantel with a lot of things. You might want to try a clock or some finials or a pair of small statues. Some people would just change the flower arrangement for the season.
Reply:Take a look around the house for knick-knacks.
Reply:What do you like?
Seasonals decor is great, but in summer and none holiday times, I'd go with something that reflexs your intrests or loves.
Take the fake flowers and burn them. Artifical flowers are the most grotesque thing as far as I'm concerned!

Reply:Use the space to refill seasonally. Halloween is coming so you can start collecting items ie.put up gourds or a row of mini-pumpkins. If you have kids can put up spooky lil creatures.

When starting up a new business, what method can I use to find suppliers apart from searching the Internet?
I need to source a range of goods including ribbons, paper, feathers, artificial gemstones, artificial flowers. I'm surfing the net at the moment but there must be an easier way?
When starting up a new business, what method can I use to find suppliers apart from searching the Internet?
Internet is still the easiest.
Make sure you're using the right terms. The ribbon and feathers can be found under wholesale millinary supplies, the rest under craft supplies.
Keep searching, I found better deals the more effort I put into it.
These people are good, I've ordered from them before.

Reply:Not an easier way, but this might give you a broader range of choices...you can call or check websites of the bigger manufacturers of the products your'e seeking, like Darice or Michael's. When I'm shopping I'll look for the manufacturer's name and hopefully their website on the label. I've found wholesale tins and glassware this way. Also, you can Google "wholesale feather manufacturer" or "wholesale handmade paper." You just have to use the correct combination of words....and yes, that is NOT an easy way! Often, individual wholesale sites are kind of buried within a directory. I've found that Google searches are often truly the easiest way to find things. Your next alternative would be to go to wholesale shows and to network with folks in businesses similar to yours. Good luck!
Reply:golden pages, city database, phone book, or simply keep ur ears open to anything u hear referring this (any people from ur circle or from external groups). hope this process doesnt get prolonged, sometimes when u need supplies u cant wait after starting ur small business.... its essential isnt it? ur organising skills ll improve n the whole process of searching wont seem such a torture to u. hint: the closest suppliers to ur area arent always the best.... good luck

What can i do with planter box?
i recently purchased a cement planter box. why i am not quite sure, maybe because it was on sale. well i live in the midwest and if we are lucky we have 3 months of nice weather, so i dont want to plant flowers in there which will only last a short time. and i dont want artificial flowers. can anyone give me ideas on what to put in there year round that would look nice. you really cant see it from the street, so appearance isnt something im worried about. i just want to fill it with something that isnt just rock or dirt.
What can i do with planter box?
Set individual potted plants inside of it.
If it's large enough, turn it upside down and use it as a garden seat. If it's not large, turn it upside down and use it as a footrest for a garden chair. Leave it right side up and set a sheet of plaexiglass across the top: voila! a garden coffee table.
Paint it to match your house's exterior and set it on your porch, or near the door you use most, and use it for muddy shoes or whatever else might gather on your doorstep.
Use it as a candle holder. Fill it high enough with sand that you can see the candles above the top edge, Stand pillar candles in it and you've got a showpiece for evening time in your yard. You could use glass hurricanes with them if you want.
Reply:Small water feature would be cool!
Reply:Put a bird feeder or bird bath in the center of it! The birds will enjoy it more than 3 months out of the year, and they can be fun to watch.
Reply:You don't mention the size of your cement planter box, or whether you will have it in shade, part shade, or full sun. Few plants will survive year-round, but here are some options:
1. Shade: Hostas (perennial). Rich moist soil.
2. Part shade: Hostas (perennial). Monkey grass or another ornamental grass (perennial and in some cases evergreen).
3. Sun: Moss roses (Portulaca). Self-seeding annual; likes hot, dry, dusty weather. Monkey grass or another ornamental grass. Sweet potato vine (annual, but gorgeous and spreading).
All of the above plants are inexpensive and easy to care for.
What would I do? You have horizontal interest (planter); add sweeping interest (monkey or other ornamental grass); add vertical interest (rocks slightly taller than the monkey grass). I would add a sweet potato vine to one end. This type of arrangement is almost foolproof and you will smile every time you see it!
Reply:you could always bring it in, paint it, hang it on the wall, and use it as a shadow box.
although i dont know how big it is.
Reply:sea shells or pine cones or even hedge apples because if you put edge apples around your house it keeps out all the little bug critters , or you could feel it up with sand and dye some of the sand to dffrent colors while you feel it up ,small kids toys that lay in the yard and get hit by the lawn mower , if it would fit you could put your garden hoes in there or the attachments for your garden hose

I am having a party, the theme is Cherry or Plum Blossom?
I don't think I can get fresh cut flowers but I do want to try getting silk ones...I went to Micheal's craft store to check out their floral section, they weren't that nice looking... do all artificial flowers look really fake or is it just the one there? Thank you

If you have a Joanne's near you they usually have some nicer silk flowers.

How can i fill a hollow ball for topiary trees?
Im making some large artificial topiary trees for a wedding but i cant find any oasis or polystyrene balls big enough in the UK, however they do have hollow balls big enough, but what can i use to fill these to make them solid and so they hold the artificial flowers?
How can i fill a hollow ball for topiary trees?
they make a spray foam at home improvement stores, like for patching and insulation materials. You could try that, it seems like it would be similar to floral foam when it is dried?

What are some good websites for silk floral supplies?
I want to make my own silk (artificial) flowers for hair clips. What are some good websites? Pre-made flowers are ok, but I'm looking for petals, leaves and other flower parts too. I am especially looking for black flower parts. I have tried search engines already, but have not found what I am looking for yet, I was hoping someone might know of some great obscure craft/floral websites.

What indoor plants would grow well without a lot of light or drainage?
I have this half wall made of brick in my (interior) hallway. It is about a foot wide. The previous owners hollowed it out and fitted it with a tin box--they had artificial flowers in it but I don't care for artificial. It doesn't get much sunlight--I would take suggestions besides plants, rocks or something maybe. Thanks!

Reply:Looks like stephanotis. Any florist should be able to get them. Show the bouquet to your florist, they should be able to recreate it if that's really what you want.
Reply:I believe that's a stephanoitis, dyed blue with pearl pins poked through. They are normally white.
Reply:They are forget me nots. You can get fake ones at the craft store. I have never seen them fresh...perhaps call a florist to see if they can get them for you.
EDIT: actually, I think the answerer below me is correct. They must be sprayed blue. forget me nots are smaller and have broader petals.
Reply:Its called stephanotis and they are real flowers. Usually white. They can be dyed to match whatever your wedding colors are though. I saw a show the other day where a girl had her hair done up and on the back of her head right below all the curls she had several of these flowers pinned in her hair and it looked SO cute.
Reply:Oh that's beautiful! I wish I knew! Maybe you can contact the owners and ask about the photo that you referenced. They would probably be able to help you more! Good luck!

Wedding flowers?
hi there. i am due to get married in august this year and have been looking at prices for wedding flowers. OMG!!! how much do florists charge???. i thought i would have a go at making my own from artificial flowers but not sure where to start. i have the flowers already. just need to know a website that may help. also any tips people can give me would be gratefully appreciated. thankyou.
Wedding flowers?
do NOT use artificial flowers! you will regret it!!!! go to a local florist and see what your options are. tell them that you'd like to keep the price down and ask them for their ideas. I'm sure you're not the first who has thought florists are expensive! good luck!
Reply:i dont know any websites BUT i know a really really cheap flower person.
i have ordered twelve centre pieces, three boquets, 3 corsages, two double button holes, and three single button holes!!! for 281,
the table centre pieces are gerbers, and the boquets, button holes etc are roses!!!
you need to shop around, try weding fairs for people, you can get a good price!!
Reply:Umm, for the person who said do not use silk flowers, they are crazy. If you want to save costs, that will be your best option. You just have to make sure what you are buying looks real and doesn't feel cheap. I have all silks for my wedding and they look gorgeous! I only spent a few hundred to buy them all as compared to the thousands you might spend with a florist. Some craft stores have free classes you can take on how to make certain arrangements. Check em out !
Reply:I was just thinking, sometimes the more fancy the bouquet of flowers, the more tacky it looks......? I thought it would be nice if the bride just held a small bunch of a particular flower e.g. 4 roses held together with a long flowing white ribbon? and the bridesmaids holding a single rose with a matching ribbon?

Florists usually charge alot.......from what I have researched but you might find a good deal.
You may want to check with what will be available in that month as those will come inexpensively.
Also check your local walmart or supermarkets they have some really good bouquets with them you could make your own. Thats what I have chosen do to as its easier!
I wouldnt go artifical as you may be dissapointed
Good Luck and Congrats!
Reply:I am also making my own bouquets, but I am going to use real flowers. The grocery store here sells flowers cheaper than the flower shop. So I am going to buy them possibly that morning, (order them a head of time) take some thik ribbon and wrap the stems together. It's really not that hard. I dont understand why the florists charge so much, its rediculous. As for flower arrangements. I saw this in a window the other day. You can buy BIG stiraphome (sp?) balls and punch through artificial flowers, then have them sit in a pot or something.. they looked really nice!

How do you create permanent liquid for artificial plants?
Does any one know how to create the illusion of permanent liquid when creating an artificial plant arrangement?
The ones they sell already made are quite pricey, so i wanted to make my own arrangement with silk flowers, rocks, and permanent water... Please help, Thanks
How do you create permanent liquid for artificial plants?
Water in a vase with a few drops of mineral oil will prevent the water from evaporating. Is that what you mean? RScott
Reply:It's actually a little more difficult to achieve than you would think. What looks like fresh water is actually a clear resin that when hardened makes your silk flower arrangements look like fresh-cut. Your best bet is to get a Liquid Illusion Flower Resin Kit. Here's a great website where you can get it: http://www.misterart.com/store/view/003/...

Wedding Flowers...Real or Artificial?
Which is the best way to go?
Daisies are my favorite and what I'm thinking about using for my spring wedding....
Wedding Flowers...Real or Artificial?
artificial are definitely going to be cheaper. real flowers tend to look nicer, but if cost is the main factor, you can find some really cute fake flowers these days.
If you are looking for flower centerpieces too, I would suggest using potted flowers because then you can replant them in a garden. Just put them in ceramic pots or decorate the plastic pots with some cute fabric and ribbon and you are good to go. You could even give them away to friends at the end of the ceremony.

How does artificial light affect flower opening and closure?
Good question, tough to answer. Plants generally follow two strategies for flowering. First is day length whether natural or on a timer. The increasing or decreasing light triggers blooming, sometimes twice as day length is the same spring and fall. Even clouds can cause some flowers to open or close if they are day-night bloomers. The second is light color or spectrum determined by the amount of atmosphere sunlight must pass through or bulbs specially made in various spectrum's. The more atmosphere light travels through in the fall causes it to redden, in the spring the color is bluer. Bluer bulbs usually promote leaf growth, red spectrum bulbs induce flowering. If I've totally confused you feel free to e-me. RScott
How does artificial light affect flower opening and closure?
It depends a lot on the type of plant. Some flowers open and close outside with sunlight, and stay closed on a cloudy day. It depends on the type of light you have inside just what the flowers will do.

Reply:If You require flowers for short period, I mean for One day or less go for Naturals. But if want flowers which stays for long period more than one day to months you can choose artificial. But there is no substitute for Natural Flowers in terms of beauty and fragrance. Select Rose, Marigold, Rajni Gandha, Jasmine Family are most excellent in terms of Beauty %26amp; Fragrance
Reply:Depends on what you want to use them for, decoration or gifting. People prefer fresh flowers to the artificail ones in India especially when it comes to functions or ocassions. for decorations nothing beats the good old Marigold, Rose petals or Tuberoses(rajnigandha) since these stay fresh for a longer time. Jasmine season is more or less finished now. Of course you get a wide variety of ready made decorations these days made to order. Now that the weather everywhere is cooling down a bit thanks to the rains chance are that flowers stay fresh longer
If gifting is what you want to do then stick to Traditonal roses or carnations. They come in a wide colur range and can brighten up the room and receiver's face instantly. :-)

Reply:Your best bet may be to look at websites and local retail shops (hobby or craft) where "miniatures" are sold... there are often flowers both for dollhouse and railroad setups, but it might depend too on the scale you're wanting.
You can find some links to begin looking for miniatures and miniature sites from this page at my website, if you want:
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/miniat...
(... click on *WEBSITES* and also on *GROUPS for Miniaturists*)
Another place to shop would be E-bay.
OR... you could make your own flowers from clay.
The page at my site linked to above has a whole sub-category on lessons and tips for making miniature flowers from polymer clays ... for those, click on *FLOWERS*
(...some of the sites you'll click on from that sub-category may also sell mini clay flowers, as well as showing the ones they make or having lessons)

Anyone using fake flowers for their wedding?
Has anyone used artificial flowers for bouquets or centerpieces at their wedding? Was it obvious? Did your guests notice?
Anyone using fake flowers for their wedding?
I'm using fake flowers. I got my bouquet, the MOH bouquet, and the groom and best man boutonniere at http://www.wedideas.com I love them! :D
Reply:They have such good quality fakes these days...if people are going to focus on that. They shouldnt have come!
Do what you can afford, and what you'll be happy with.
Reply:my dad did and every one knew they thought it was cheesy and cheap..... sorry but i personally don't think it looks good you can tell the difference!
Reply:That is 99.9% what I have used for all weddings.
If made properly - a person usually cannot tell the difference unless they touch the flower.
The artificial flowers can be incredibley beautiful
All the guests have ooed %26amp; ahhhed over the flowers ... the Bride ^ Groom did the same.
I made all the flowers, the center peaces, the cakes, the cake tops, the candles ... just about everything .. and it was all gorgeous. I have even used the flowers in the wedding cake .. and in some groom cakes.
Reply:I used fake flowers at my wedding. I actually didn't care if the guests noticed or not, it was what I could afford at the time. But I was also working under a floral designer and she totally helped me out on prices %26amp; designs. Do what you want, some of these answers are totally off base.
I actually know a couple whose wedding debt after the honeymoon was so great it literally ended the marriage before the 2nd anniversary. Use artificial if that is what is in your budget; don't blow your budget over what people will think.
Reply:I used silk flowers, and I am sure people knew they were silk, but I think they came out beautifully! My bridesmaids and I did their bouquets but I had mine made by a florist (mine was really expensive!) A lot of people will tell you that silk flowers are cheesy and to only go with real, but not everyone can have real (I have severe allergies). Many florists that design with silks can make you bouquets that you would never know the difference. Bottom line is go with what you want!
Reply:We are using fake flowers for the bouquets. just because it is cheaper and I am having an outside wedding. Trying to avoid bees.
I have been to a couple of wedding with fake flowers. To me it is just as pretty. if we could attach photos I would show you my matron of honors flowers.
Reply:It's a real wedding, why would you have fake flowers?
Reply:My daughter just got married this fall. We bought our flowers at Walmart, and put them all together ourselves. We had lots of complements on the flowers. Many of the guests could not believe they were not real.
We did not have any flowers in the centerpieces.
Reply:I've never had a wedding, considering I'm 13, but I helped my brother and my sister-in-law plan their wedding, because I was their flower girl.
And my advice is, if you looking for something cheap, go with fake. Yes, their a little tacky and guests may notice, but why guests should care about the flowers? WHO KNOWS?? they should be focusing on the bride and the groom which will look ah-mazing in her wedding dress.
But if you want real flowers, it will look more....professional (i guess that word can fit it), but real flowers smell better, and make the room smell more...flowery.
Sorry if my advice didn't help. I'm 13, don't know much about weddings. =]
EDIT: plus, fake flowers, I don't think anyone would care. Their just flowers for pete's sake! LOL.
Reply:Despite what people say, I don't think fake flowers look tacky. Besides, you can use them later in decorating your house or whatever. I would have preferred fake flowers to real ones just for that reason.
Reply:I'm using all silk flowers in my wedding and my cousin did in hers and honestly I had no idea her flowers were fake until I stood right next to her and stared them down. The flowers they showed me at the floral shop also looked incredibly real for being silk.
Think about this, the nice think about fake (silk) flowers is that you will have them forever so you can have the great memory of your day any time you want without having to pull out a photo album (or digital file on your computer)!
Out of curiosity, any reason you are looking for fake flowers? I only know I am due to allergies.
Reply:no way!
Reply:my mom used fake roses for her bouquet and like flowers she pin into the guys..I dont think they noticed to much... She likes having fake bouquet and all that cause those are things she got to keep for the memories
Reply:that was so long ago i cannot remember flowers.
Reply:Yes, lots of brides do. If they are done nicely...like 1 color of roses, then that is fine. The problem is that some do a big huge bouquet of many, many flowers and, well, they look FAKE!
Also, sometimes silks are not cheaper! Look at this simple bouquet titled "pink roses to carry" (about 2/3 down on the left side of this link.) I think it is so elegant and it would not cost much for 3 roses and a ribbon:
http://www.atkinsfarms.com/wedfloalbum.h...
You can buy roses from places like Walmart and Costco for $10/dozen. You can even special order your quantity and color!
Reply:no I take it from my neighbor's yard
Reply:I had an artificial nosegay made for my daughters wedding only because of the uncertain timing. The flowers lasted longer than the marriage.
Reply:No, why would you use fake flowers its your one very special day in your like don't spoil it with plastic plants. And yes the guests will notice especially when you through the bouquay the ladies will be like " what the hell is this fake flower" my opinion is DONT USE THE FAKE GO WITH REAL!
Reply:mix them so u get a more natural feeling unless ur allergic it a grat idea :)
Reply:my cousin did, and if you get the right kind they will be less obvious...
Reply:im sure people do but real ones smell much better
Reply:No, they didn't notice till they had a closer look at them. They liked them better than real ones as u get to keep them forever.
Reply:I used a mixture of real and fake silk flowers for mine and you couldn't tell the difference! But that was only for the decorations. The bouquets, boutonnières, dinner tables decors and cake flowers were all real.
Reply:Fake is never the genuine thing dear heart. Of course guests would notice. My suggestion would be to have the real flowers and choose among those that are in season when the wedding will take place. After all, your wedding is a very special day in your life.
However for centerpieces, there are some beautiful silk flowers that look just like the real thing and would do for the winter months because the real flowers are generally expensive. It all depends on your budget and what is important to YOU...
Congratulations.
Reply:I am using fake flowers for the bouquets, and real flowers for the alter. One less thing I have to arrange to have picked up the day of.
Reply:always notice looks tacky

Gel for artificial plants/vases?
Earlier today I purchased a kit for making clear gel that would resemble water in a vase full of artificial flowers. Is there some way to make this gel?
=] Thanks.
Gel for artificial plants/vases?
Didn't instructions come with the kit?
All of the polymers we sell at our L%26amp;G Center you just add water to--but I can't tell you that is what you need to do with the one you bought.
Addition: It's a product of polymer science. I don't know if it's possible to make it with household products. It might also require special equipment. Unless someone more versed in polymer science tells you differently, I don't think you can make it at home.
Reply:Any craft store has it.

Artificial wedding flowers?
Does anyone know someone who sells wedding corsages and buttonholes apart from the ones on ebay at the moment.Maybe you've bought one yourself.
Artificial wedding flowers?
I know you said "other than ebay"...but I just got all of my flowers done by one of the florists on ebay, and she did a WONDERFUL custom order for me. All of my flowers, from my bridal bouquet, bridesmaids flowers, toss bouquets, corsages, bouts, pew bows and more...for less than 200 including shipping. They look great, they are wrapped in ribbon and they will not end up wilted on your wedding day.
Reply:Just type "Artificial wedding flowers" on web search and you have a wide choice of firms who do corsages and buttonholes as well as bride and bridesmaid bouquets. It would give you a wider selection than Ebay. That way you have a variety of styles to choose from and there may be a local supplier close to where you live, which would spare you the additional expense of postage and packing. It also would mean you could see what they offer for yourself rather than on a computer screen, and enable you to discuss your personal needs and preferences more easily. Of course it depends on where you live. Here is just one general advisory site in UK. There are others if you add the region where you live (Scotland, Ireland, England etc) whilst looking on the net.

I have also seen a lovely eBay store, which have loads of different designs and come custom make the colours suited to your wedding party...
The eBay store is called Thebridalworkshop - excellent feedback as well...
Hope that helps.. x

Reply:Your local florist should do them atleast doing it that way that will be all the same, id had artifical flowers for my wedding me and my mum did them all , ask a friend .
Reply:For artificial ones if your crafty and want to go cheap try the fake flower section of Walmart or your local craft store. Thats what I did for my wedding and in the pictures you can't even tell that they're not real. Plus it will save you the time and worry of having to pick up real ones the day of or day before and you won't have to worry about them wilting.
Reply:www.karensweddingflowers.com ............ beautifull and affordable had all mins from her and it is such a personal service and they were amazing
Reply:You should be able to obtain these from most good florists, market stalls, department stores etc. At least here in Scotland you can.

Candle and Artificial Flower Making Business?
I am an Indian women and want to start my own business in candle and artificial flower making. I need your suggestions on how are the market prospects for this business in India. Do let me know if you have any other business option. I am a software engineer by proffession looking forward to quit this job and start something of my own.
Candle and Artificial Flower Making Business?
You're smart enough. So just go to a flower shop and ask if you can literally volunteer for maybe a month to see what people like to buy, see what people like to do, where they need flowers and decorations, how much they are willing to pay, etc. And also to learn about the business model itself.
Resolve to imitate at this moment, and add your own touch of innovation, hopefully a method to lower your cost of production, which is really what would bring you profit quickly. Aim for profitability and sustainability at this point. Resolve to pay your bills and have a little extra, otherwise the business will be a burden.
Reply:Try import from the manufacturer in Thailand. They produce very
beautiful flower from clay and are currently hot in the market. I
think you earn a lot from this product.
I found one exporter website at =%26gt;

You can search for a florist in the city and state you wish and find a LOCAL florist to handle your flower order. You can send flowers and avoid wire service fees this way.

Reply:Ebay baby! I bought my blue lillies on ebay and they looked beautiful.
Reply:AC Moore, Michael's,Wal-mart,Target
Reply:Dollar store or tissue paper if you are really in a money bind.

Reply:don't use cheap fake flowers. they will look terrible in your pictures! Call around to local florists... (not the chain kind) and tell them that you are doing your wedding on a budget and want to know what is in season and cheap. I did all the flowers for my wedding for under $200 that way and I even had a toss bouquet.
Have the bridesmaids carry one or three (always carry odd #'s) of a beautiful long stemed flower instead of a bouquet and that is cheaper too.
I did gladiolas and each girl (5) had 3 stems tied with a ribbon and I had 5 white ones with 3 blush pink roses. The guys then had boutinears of gladiola buds. It was very unique, elegant and inexpensive.
Reply:Michaels..they even made my bouquets.

Which company is the biggest artificial flower importer in the world?
I think you can answer that question by Googling "artificial flower importer." Good luck with that.
I was driving and saw a cross and artificial flowers pinned down on the highway greens?
...I usually just pass by feeling sorry for that person/family and move on, but this time I saw two. And then I thought what if that were me? I didn't want to think about it, but life is very fleeting and we never really know when we'll go.
Isn't life a waste if they go when they've totally had a plan, excellent goals, and was trying to accomplish alot? Thinking this makes me feel bad...
I was driving and saw a cross and artificial flowers pinned down on the highway greens?
There is a way to combine sadness with hope. It has to do with the understanding that life is cyclical, like sleep, and that, since time has no beginning,or end, there is no point at which all is lost..
Reply:It isn't so sad if you look at it differently. If you know that you are going to a better place when your life ends here it is great. Each day is an opportunity to bring honor and glory to God. Thank God for each day He gives you and rejoice when He calls you home. If all that life had was material gain it would indeed be sad but there is so much more. You can have an impact that will be eternal if you strive to show the love of God to others.
Reply:I believe its a bigger waste of life when a person has all the goals and plans then lives to a ripe old age but never follows through with them.
Reply:Yes it is a shame that they would have to go when they were that confused.
It would be better if they would have went after they realized that the only worthwhile goals were peace and happiness.
Love and blessings Don
Reply:If they went Home, then they were finished. Were they still here they still would have something they came for on the way Home.
Reply:I know this may sound strange but I have seen so many on the roadside that I have had the urge to take photo's and to find out who they people were, right a book about them so they are not just something you pass by and forget.
Reply:A story written by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) called the "Mysterious Stranger" helped me to better understand why bad things can and do happen to good people. I would not tell you how to feel-since I consider all feelings to be valid. With a better understanding your feeling may change.
Reply:Life isn't like a play that must have three acts to be complete. A life is complete and self contained whether it lasts one year or a hundred.
Reply:Perhaps it is a big waste, but for me its' more about trying to live what life we can where and when we can.
No-one can totally predict when they are going to die, no-one can make a plan and guarantee it to last for an entire life time.
Its' not the end result that matters, its' the journey that makes the story that makes it all worth while or not...so we just have to live our lives where and when we can if possible.
toodles
Reply:Life, it happens. Yes sad, but you cant change it, some feel you can alter fate, but I am not sure.
Reply:When you think about life from the perspective of the individual, it often seems quite pointless and irrelevent. In the movie "Unforgiven", Clint Eastwood says something to the effect that when a person dies, everything he is, was, and ever will be is taken away. I disagree; I think when a person dies, that person may or may not have made a lasting impression on the world. If he has, that will go on and affect more people. I think, if humanity is more important than the individual, then a life that has made an impact has been well spent.
Isn't life a waste if they go when they've totally had a plan, excellent goals, and was trying to accomplish alot? Thinking this makes me feel bad...

I have some artificial flower?
i have some artificial flower but they are big and tall
what kind of vase is suitable for them
I have some artificial flower?
A tall heavier one with a narrow hole in the top so that they stand up straight. Tall, to suit the height of the flower, heavy so it doesn't keep falling over.

Real flowers vs artificial flowers.?
Which ones would you rather have in your house?
Real flowers vs artificial flowers.?
REAL flowers - fakes get dusty, oily, and nasty if you don't clean them often, and their colors fade over time. Whereas real flowers smell nice, look good, and if you take care of them, water them, and feed them plant food regularly they will live a long time, producing many flowers.
Reply:Real flowers.
Reply:Real flowers are prettty and realistic (that's why they're real!!:) and they just add that certain touch to your room. But they die too easily and the water and stuff... Artificial are better because they are pretty and also realistic. They are pretty much the same, but you have to take care of real ones. I say artificial. :)

How to make artificial flowers?
Gee - I just started this too. I located a great book on EBay - How to Make Crepe Paper Flowers by Dennison, It is an old book, but lots of people sell them It gives directions for a whole garden full of flowers. Most of the on-line links are for fairly simple flowers. I really like this book for more "real" looking things
I also started quilling - and it is a super easy way to make decorative stuff using paper
How to make artificial flowers?
You can use any tissue paper, or for waterproof flowers you can use nylon netting.
Fan fold a 4" X 4" square (6" X 6" for larger and so on) back and forth like a hand fan is. Secure middle with a rubber ban, tie wrap or wire, whichever you prefer. Once the middle is secure - here comes fhe fun part. Separate each layer towards the middle. And you have beautiful flower for a bouquet, on the wedding car, etc.

I Found A Daisy artificial flower in my lawn it was so pretty can someone use voodoo on a flower?
can some use voodoo on a flower and put it in your yard
I Found A Daisy artificial flower in my lawn it was so pretty can someone use voodoo on a flower?
I find all kinds of strange stuff in my yard all the time. No voodoo, just the wind redepositing someone elses crap in my yard. It can be very windy here in Reno.
Reply:Nope, as far as I know there are no seed packets for planting and growing artifical daisies. No Voodoo either. In the 20 years I've been gardening it takes planning and hard work to make a garden grow real flowers, Plastic or artifical flowers are purchased at craft stores and just stuck in the ground. No satisfaction there. Sorry!

What does artificial flowers mean?
artificial flowers are any that are not grown. They are made of plastic or cloth usually silk
What does artificial flowers mean?
simply that they are not real flowers only fakes made of plastic or silk
Reply:artificial flowers mean that they are not real they are fake. A handmade imitation of a blossom
Reply:There are two types of flowers. The kind that are grown over a period of time, using light, water, soil, etc. If you are to buy these types of flowers, you will need to water them, make sure they get enough sunlight, and nurture them. Artificial flowers are made of plastic and do not need to be watered, do not need to be kept in sunlight, and don't really need to be cared for. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I'd go with the real flower as it is more rewarding, even if it does die.

How do you make dried flowers for artificial nails?
I think I would find the tiniest flowers I could, like the kind that are really like fifty flowers on a long bunch, then I would put them in a heavy book and press them for a week or two. That will preserve flowers for ever and you can just take out what you need for your nails when you need too.

I need recommendations for flowers for wedding bouquets. The colors are yellow and cream.?
I already know that I want daises, daffodills, and cream colored roses. I don't know what else, though. I was planning on going with artificial flowers to save money, and so I can keep them. So whatever suggestions you may have, please let me know!

Lilies would be gorgeous in that bouquet as you've planned it, there are several styles, stephanotis is another you might try (a bit stronger scent and lovely). Dendrobium orchids are another possibility.
Be sure to make a "throw away" bouquet for the bride so that you can keep the one you carried down the aisle.
Artificial flowers can definitely save you a great deal in cost and if arranged artistically you can't tell the difference in pictures or from the audience. If you live in a large city or near one (L.A. or San Francisco, NY, etc) you could also try a flower warehouse.
Be sure to have your bouquet dried so you can preserve it.
Congrats and best wishes.

Reply:Luckily, you can find great flowers at craft stores. Often times they look very natural and are very reasonably priced. An option for you, due to the fact that you want daisies and daffodils, may be to create a natural bouquet. Daisies and daffodils are often regarded as "wildflowers". Begin the bouquet with the daisies and daffodils since you know that you want these included. Next, choose your roses - a tea rose would compliment the other flowers better than a larger bloom. For fillers, you could choose sprays of grasses in deep greens with white or gold highlights. Also, stems and/or sprays with berries is a beautiful compliment to your bouquet. A deep blue or violet would be perfect with the degrees of white in your daisies and roses. Also, you could incorporate vines, such as jasmine and honeysuckle to give the bouquet a wispy, romantic feel. Due to the type of flowers you began with, I would recommend hand tying the bouquet by wrapping a gold or ivory ribbon around the mid-section of the stems.
In addition, for bridesmaids, there are some excellent options. One large, long stemmed gerber daisy with a bow tied on the stem would be beautiful.
I hope this helps. Congratulations! Don't be afraid to use your imagination or experiment.
Reply:Maybe try to incorporate another colour other than yellow and white so that if the bridesmaids are wearing one of those colours, the flowers won't completely blend into their dresses in the pictures. A nice colour to go with yellow and cream are different shades of purple so you could add a few flowers in that way.
Reply:My advice is to go look at craft stores for the flowers you want in your boquet and then get some ideas on how you want to arrange them my mom grandmother and I put together my sister's boquet as well as the ones for the bridesmaids. I believe that the more you do yourself the more beautiful it will be. Good luck! And congratulations!

INEXPENSIVE artificial flowers?
Just wondering if anyone knows a good place online that I can order fake flowers for a wedding. But I have a tight budget. If you know of anywhere that sells them for a decent price I would love to know. Thanx

Artificial Flowers for wedding reception...?
My mother thinks its better than real flowers what do you think. and why.
Artificial Flowers for wedding reception...?
I think it is a matter of preference.
Silks have come a LONG way since their conception, and many are now hard to tell from the real thing without VERY close inspection. The benefit of this is that you could recoup some of the money spent after the wedding by re-selling your arrangements. Another possible benefit is that silks rarely (and I mean VERY rarely) have anyone that is allergic to them. Real flowers may give your guests allergy troubles. The down side is that good silks can be almost as expensive as the real ones (sometimes more so).
Real flowers however have a natural beauty and scent. Getting them out of season though can be a real pain as you will have added cost and have to worry about wilting. You would also have to pay to preserve your bouquet (if you chose to do so) but with silks you wouldnt have to.
Just do your homework thoroughly before deciding which way to go. Do not purchase silks unless you can hold one in your hand and see it in person... you do not want to end up with a really low quality flower just to save a few cents.
Reply:I think you should combine fresh flowers with silk ones (please not plastic). Silk flowers are not really that cheap but they look so real and is worthwhile to do weeks ahead. Silk ones won't wilt but it still might work out cheaper, just do the math beforehand. I'll put it on the cake, on the chairs, the aisles, in other words every where the guests will not look and feel and smell and discover that they are fake. But use fresh ones for your bouquets, the corsages and boutounnieres, and on the tables or if you choose to decorate your serviettes with flowers, in a ribbon around the serviette. The rest can be fake if used decoratively. If you are clever nobody will tell the difference and will think "I wonder how much all these flowers cost...rich people".
Reply:Reception is for one day in minimum 5 hours.
that orignal is orignal /artifical is not good for reception.
i think Flower is best for u.
Reply:I personally prefer real flowers. I think artificial are cheap and tacky but then that's only my opinion. They may be cheaper and it is only for for day.
I had fresh at my wedding and yes they were pricy, but perfect!
Reply:Some suggestions for a change. Why not asking the little girls in your family to participate and create their own home-made ones ? It would be a great souvenir they could keep back afterwards., and, have a nice wedding !
Reply:as long as there is cake and some alcohol I couldn't give a rat's **** if the flowers are fake or real. But if you go for fakes.... don't go for the plastic ones. Maybe silk ones or something, but not plastic.
Reply:It's okay, but I also think it's your one special day, and there's nothing better than fresh flowers!
Reply:Well I am looking to get fake too. Your bouquet will never die. It will beautiful forever!
Reply:Real flowers are lovely but they cost quite alot of money and only last a few days. Artificial flowers will last a life time so you and your guests can keep them after the day and have a permant reminder of the day. As long as your bouquet has real flowers I don't think there is any need for real ones at the reception.
Reply:Artificial flowers are OK for the reception and probably safer as no water in vases needed and they can be arranged and put to one side ready for your big day saving a lot of time and frustration, but make sure your bouquet is the real thing.
Reply:I feel that fresh flowers look the best, I am a wedding co-ordinator and the best flowers I have seen have been fresh.
Reply:i had artificial flowers at my wedding ,everything the button holes , bridesmaids , in the church , the reception and even my own were artificial my flowers layed up your arm (like holding a baby ) something a bit different , ive been to a lot of wedding and the amount of money it cost to have your flowers made just for them to die is unbeliveble yes you can get them pressed and put into a frame but that will cost you nearly as much as it cost for the flowers in the first place ,
the coments i got about my flowers were unreal you couldnt tell thay were artifical because my mother had made them so well and i have something to keep my flowers are in my bathroom now laying across the window ledge , you no its your wedding have a little think go ask some prices of real flowers and then think about how much thay are going to cost just to die at least with artificial you will always have , you could always mix the two together .good luck in what you decide and have a great wedding
Reply:my friend wants to keep her flowers so we done artificial ones they look really and really cheap her flowers for the whole wedding cost £30 thats 4 bridesmaids and hers and 4 table decs
Reply:i dont see anything wrong with artificial flowers!
i had an arrangement of them at my service, they look nice and are a lot cheaper than the real ones and they dont need water which is a good thing if you are going to have young children at your reception!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:i think real flowers are much better
Reply:They could be less expensive, last longer; you could save them........if the expense isn't the issue, I'd have real flowers; but let your mom decide something :)
Reply:I personally wouldn't like artificial flowers. I love the real thing. Also you wouldn't get a lovely flower scent if you opt for artificial flowers.
Reply:I think silk flowers for a wedding are an awesome idea. My best friend used silk calla lilies in her wedding and NO ONE could tell. People were even smelling them at the reception...which was too funny. I still have my bouquet... everyone that sees them smells them... almost a year later. The great things about artificial flowers are they are much less expensive, you don't have to worry about them dying or staining anything, and you can keep them forever. My wedding bouquet was real and I wish I had done silk... because my friend has a beautiful bouquet and mine is UGLY! Good luck and best wishes.
Reply:Because they are less expensive and you could have a drawing or put something under one seat at each table so someone can take the arrangement home. Plus you don't want fragrant flowers when you are trying to eat.
Reply:Real cause your keepn' it real. Okay serious time i believe real because this is your wedding. It's a big deal. Your wedding is real not fake.
Reply:I am a pro photographer and have participated in hundreds of weddings in my lifetime
Artificial flowers these days are made extremely well-- look absolutely superb --- can be a beautiful addition -- without near the fuss and trauma associated with trying to deal with the real ones and not only cost considerable less--- after everything is said and done--- you can use them in a hundred different ways afterwards !! Very smart-- if you ask me---and you did !!!!
Reply:i had artificial ones at my wedding i made them my self!! v cheep and they looked fab, the only thing i bought was the button holes and i got them off e-bay i got fancy ones for the family and the plain carnations for the rest off the guests!
good luck i hope this as helped.
Reply:I certainly prefer fresh flowers but at this moment in time have been seeing different florists for weddings flowers and really just seems to be a matter of choice. Some of the sample bouquets and arrangements we picked up we actually had to touch to decide if they were fresh or silk, Here (Scotland) there were no difference in price, example the brides bouquet was the same in silk or fresh flowers. As the venue of our wedding is large with high ceilings we require something substantial for table arrangements and whilst these will be fresh we are thinking of 2 in silk for the top table as table decorations are usually given to close family or people who has helped with the wedding at end of the evening. As we have 2 people, 1 a stroke victim and another very elderly not attending the wedding we thought the 2 silk arrangements could be taken to them at a later date as a little gesture from the bride and groom. Just telling you this in case you may have similar circumstances. The florist has assured us the 2 silk arrangements will look exactly as the others.
Reply:Silk flowers are terrific. They don't look artificial and you don't have the concern about real flowers being delivered on the day and perhaps fading or dying or being damaged throughout the ceremony and reception. Also, you get to keep your bouquet forever, instead of having to throw it away when it dies! I had silk flowers and they were beautiful!
Reply:Its cheaper .
Reply:i will still go for real flowers though...but then maybe you can mix real and artificial ones, and have a look at the differerence...is it noticeable?
Reply:Well, artificial flowers have never taken off, because of the beauty of fresh flowers...I still think that fresh flowers are so delicate and beautiful that an artificial flower can never match. It is really up to you. If you like real flowers, go with it, it is your wedding
Reply:I have no problem with artificial flowers. I know my florist is doing silk flowers for my dad bout. and my stepmothers corsage. You could always do that too.
Artificial flowers are cheaper than doing real flowers.
Reply:When I remarried, I had artificial, the florist I chose was really great, and she showed me what they would look like. I had Violet coloured roses with cream buds and pearl droplets and just a hint of greenery, I wish I could show you them cos they were [are] beautiful. The good thing about them is you can keep them and I still have mine and my daughters bouquets.
I hope you make the right decision for you and Good Luck,xx
Reply:Real, they're renewable and disposable.
Reply:I think if its what YOU want then its fine but to be honest i would go for fresh as on the day of your wedding its the smell of your flowers that you will remember, you only need to put single flower in little vases, i.e. spray Carnation, or a freesia, you don't have to go to a great deal of expense on them, unless you want too.
