Put them in a paper bag with some salt. Shake them well and then shake the excess salt off. The salt removes all the dust. Hope this helps.
Is it possible to clean dusty artificial flowers or do I toss them?
I've put mine on the top rack of the dishwasher, and they've turned out beautifully.
Reply:Yes, you CAN clean them, %26amp; it's so simple! Put your flowers %26amp; one half of a cup of uncooked rice into a sturdy paper bag. Then just shake the bag around in every direction for 30 to 60 seconds, depending on how dirty your flowers are. Remove your flowers from the bag, %26amp; holding them upside down, shake them out over your garbage can to shake loose any remaining rice. You'll be surprised how clean this will get them!
Reply:To clean artificial flowers, place them in a paper bag with a handful of SALT or SAND and shake well. This will remove a lot of the dust. Shake them off well. If they need reshaping and are fabric or paper, warm up a teaspoon by dipping it into a pan of hot water, dry it off and press each petal on the bowl of the spoon.
OR - If they are made of anything that will withstand water, fill a sink or bucket with warm water and a small amount of detergent. Take each plant individually, hold it upside down and dip it into the water. Swish it a few times, give it a gentle shake to remove excess water, and replace it in its location. It's not hard to do, many office cleaning company workers do this to all of their client's fake plants %26amp; trees.
OR - Put the flowers in a box with pebbles and shake them. To dust them quickly use Dust remover spray cans that are for computers and electronic equip. It gives a strong blast and would do well in a pinch.
OR - If they are rose bush like flowers and are plastic in nature, you can also take them outside on a nice day. Spray the leaves with rubbing alcohol and water mixture out of spray bottle. When they are dry (15 minutes, slightly mist them with Orange Glo (you can use a car cleaning mitt to spread the Orange Glo). Clean and SHINY!
WARNINGS:
DO NOT use soap on them if they are fabric roses, this can fade them, cause the colors to bleed out of the pedals, and also cause holes in them if the detergent is too strong. I DO NOT recommend ANY soap on cloth flowers! This tip I got from a friend about using Dawn dish wahsing liquid, and it made my red roses a YUCKY color, and I had to buy more! I also DO NOT recommend using a vacume [even a hand held one] because they can SUCK the pedals RIGHT OFF the stems! You want to BLOW off the dust or shake it off some way, NOT suck it off. Fabric flowers attract dust, and the dust gets literally INTO the strands of the fabric's threads, this is why washing them will only PUSH the dust farther INTO the fabric dear.
Reply:If they're silk flowers you can gently wash them with something mild (like Ivory Liquid) and luke warm or cold water. You can run them under the tap if the water is not on with much force, suds them up with your hand or a sponge, and rinse them.
You just have to be careful with how roughly you handle them and careful that the water is not running too hard.
If they're very dusty you may want to remove any ribbons or lace (or else just be careful because the dirty water can get on the fabric, and stain - of course, you can use the suds to clean that too. Its just that ribbons/lace are harder to clean well than the flowers are.)
Try to keep too much water from getting to any place that has glue because too much water can make glued parts start to come apart. Also, try to keep the water up around the heads of the flowers rather than letting it soak into (even fake) stems and the base they're in.
If the flowers are plastic you can do the same thing, and you don't have to be quite as careful. If a piece falls off the stem you can just put it back.
Since you say "artificial" flowers I assume you're not talking about dried flowers.
Reply:I find that its pretty hard to get all of the dust off so I usally toss the. (#1 reason why I don't have many in my decor at home).
Reply:yes. all you have to do is put them in warm soapy water. then let them dry.
Reply:try and hand wash and dry naturally in sun, if no good, toss them anyway
Reply:Swish through a mild dishwater solution. Rinse. Then hang upside down til dry.
Reply:You can actually wash them with soap and water but ome artificial flowers get too dusty that is really hard to remove. if it is still dusty, just toss them away.
Reply:Try rinsing them in the sink. If they don't come clean toss them. Artificial flowers are bad enough, but dusty ones are really nasty.
Reply:its possible, by soaking it in water. try to wipe it with wet tissue that has soap on it. and then soak it again to wash the soap away.
Reply:well i wouldnt chuck em id just wash em
Reply:You can use a hair dryer to blow the dust off- or, hold the flowers in a trash bag and shake whatever dust off that you can.
Reply:i spray them with the water hose outside then just let them dry in the sun
Reply:Hose them off in the sink.
Reply:I would use my vacuum hose
Reply:dip them in water, then shake them off to dry
Reply:Head them up. Move them into the shower area. Twice a month. Rinse them off. Away you go.
Reply:I just blow dry the dust right off the flowers...make sure you hold the flowers in a garbage bag first!!!
Reply:spray them with some windex and then put them in the shower and let the shower run on them then set them out to dry.
Reply:artificial flowers are made of plastic, so cleaning them is easy. Now, if your decorations were stained, or deformed, or otherwise damaged goods, you then might consider tossing 'em. Yet, a little dust is par for the course, and easily remidied , since they're designed to stand the test of time, Just wash them in the sink, or basin with some warm water with a bit of soap mixed in.. Now, if you really want to get into it, once theyre dry, spray a smidge of endust, pledge, that sort of polish on them, with rag in hand, rub the stuff off,(now this will take the most time of all, but the detailing is how they really show like new) and you get a shine that will help resist your future dust problems, and give a NEW LOOK too.
Reply:Just hose them off... they'll be fine. Shine them up with a bit of windex...
Reply:Just take them outside and shake the dust off, or vacume gently with the vacume tools.
