real ones.
Does your Church use artificial flowers when they decorate or real ones?
what's the point of the question again?
Reply:Real on the altar, fake elsewhere
Reply:The church I used to go to used real ones. Every week someone would put the flowers in the church in memory of someone or in honor of someone.
The one I go to now uses potted plants.
Reply:Whats the reason for this question?
Reply:real....its classy with 3000 members..
Reply:No church, no flowers, but I would think anyone who believed in a god would find that god worthy of something more than fake flowers.
Reply:real. idt i like they idea of fake flowers actually
Reply:real or very realistic silk flowers no paper or plastic though

Where can i buy an artificial table arrangement for the home?
Ive just bought a coffee table and i want something really nice to go in the middle of it, im after a large/tall and full artificial flower arrangement to go in a large vase, where can i buy one online cheap?
Thanks.
Where can i buy an artificial table arrangement for the home?
I am way out of my league here but I saw my wife and daughter get a nice vase, select flowers from a craft store and make their own.
I think this is the best advice because you end up with exactly what you want arranged the way you want.
Reply:Try ebay, I got a really nice floral centrepiece on it last year. There are always plenty available in different styles, colours, sizes etc, so you should find one to suit.
Reply:Why would you want to?
Artificial flowers are very very naff.
Buy a pot plant, it will not only look nice but improve the air quality.
Thanks.

Is this a interesting science project question"do flowers grow better in sunligt or artificial light?
is this an interesting ? do flowers grow better in artifical light or sun light
Is this a interesting science project question"do flowers grow better in sunligt or artificial light?
How many times are you going to ask the same question. If you want a detailed explanation, your best bet would be to research it on the internet.
Good luck!
Reply:Very interesting science project question. Most greenhouses use light generated by the Metal Halide bulb, which requires a special ballast type socket. Metal Halide's have a full light spectrum that is very close to real sunlight, but, depending on which plants you want to grow, they can provide to much illumination. Plants that grow in full sun respond to Metal Halide lamps. Some use 500 watts, and some use 1000 watts, but there are halides down to 100 watts. I do not recommend these low wattage lights for growing.
There are also full spectrum 'fluorescent' grow lamps, of different lengths, but many require a special fixture. They can also be kept very close to the plants as they are considered as 'cold light'. They also, usually use less energy. They require special timers, different from those you would use with incandescant lamps, because of how the ballast starts the lamps.
As to whether they grow better inside or outside; this depends upon your attention to the details of the plants daily existence. How much fresh air they get, how well watered they are, and whether you keep down the various predators that can really take over in greenhouses, like spider mites, and mealey bugs, as 2 examples. Controling the humidity and air flow are 'super important', also green houses can become very hot. It is very important to determine well ahead of time, whether planted inside or outside, what type of sunlight the plants require to grow and also flower; as an example, shade plants, can be full shade or partial shade and plants that love sunlight may require a certain amount of shade. If you are growing outside, make sure that the plants are of a local variety. Also the amount of rainfall, especially if it is excessive, can affect how they grow.
Plants are living things, so there is much to consider.

Artificial sunlight for flowers...?
The backyard to our family's house is big but not too big and it has a small forest in the south west corner. We are trying to plant flowers along the edge of the forest but they never get enough sun to thrive. Is there any product that will work or a form of artificial sunlight? Any help is appreciated.
Artificial sunlight for flowers...?
After over 20 years in Horticulture, I have NEVER heard of a product or a lighting system that will work outdoors...and I can only imagine the wattage necessary to do even a mediocre job...
Plus with so many plants that will thrive in shady sites why go to the bother and expense...To list all the varieties, would take volumes...but you can do wonderful things with plant like hostas, astillbies, ferns, liriope, impatients...you get the picture...
You could also try cutting down some of the trees to open up the canopy...
Shade gardening is not only fascinating, but an art unto itself...
Happy planting
Reply:you will need to select a shade tolerant flower of some kind. Not many flowering plants are shade loving! good luck
Reply:If the forest is that bad, why not "thin it out" so that sunlight gets towards everything.
After all, too much shade will promote rot in certain places, and if your roof or building is getting too much shade, then you will start to grow mold around the outside, or moss, which has an acidic effect on rocks and furniture and buildings..
I wish you well..
Jesse
Reply:The usual way around the problem is to plant flowers that prefer shade instead of sunlight. Plant things such as Azaleas, Camelias, Hostas and Rhododendrons.

Are artifical flowers OK for outdoors?
I do not have a green thumb, but would like to spruce up my porch with flower pots. Can I use artificial flowers? ie: artificial mums or fall type flowers? If so, is there any type of spray that I should use that will hold their color %26amp; quality through the elements?
Are artifical flowers OK for outdoors?
All my family uses is silk flowers outside and they hold up great. Just make sure every season you wash them real quick with a cloth and some water with a little soap. They look great and real and they hold up and you don't have to spend all the money having to buy real flowers that die all the time. Every season a different flowers on the poarch near the door is great and the wreath on the door is also fake but looks great. It's the way to go now a day's with everyone to busy to take care of real plants and it's cheaper in the long run.
Reply:Sure, you can find them in the worst neighborhoods of your city.
Reply:With the quality today, many can not be easily discerned from real. You will need to wash from time to time as they become dusty.
Reply:Yea, i dont see why the wouldnt be, the are fake, however they might freeze but i dont know
Reply:I think fake flowers will look fine in pots on the porch. If it snows where you are I would not leave them out all winter. If not, cleaning and keeping them out of the sun should keep them looking nice.

Flowers for my hair - should I use real or artificial - I'm confused?
I'm wearing my hair half up, half down and I want orchids (my wedding flower) in my hair. I'll probably have them on the side by my ear. Here's a photo of how it will look but my orchids will be fuchsia.
http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/b...
Here's the thing:
My florist included fresh orchids for my hair in my flower package and he said that if the hairstylist needs them wired or whatever to just let him know. But I'm going to have so much going on that day, that I really don't want to have to think about picking up the fresh orchids.
I've made hair clips before with artificial flowers. Should I just do that instead? Would you think it's weird if all of the flowers at the reception are real and the only thing fake is in my hair?
UGH! And then matching it properly to the real ones. I don't know what to do.
Flowers for my hair - should I use real or artificial - I'm confused?
Definitely do artificial flowers. You wont have to worry about matching perfecting, because no one is going to hold your bouquet up to your hair and say, "hey, that looks a shade off!!
You wont have to worry about picking up fresh flowers that morning, or worry about the flowers wilting. Artifical flowers will look wonderful the whole day.
Beautiful style by the way!! I might steal it for my wedding, since I'm looking at hair styles.
Reply:I think you should go with the real flowers- silk dont look as nice, assign a bridesmaid or family member to be in charge of getting the flowers to you on time!
congrads
Reply:I would wear artificial because in your hair the real ones could wilt and not look so stunning later in the day. If they don't match 100%, but are close, I wouldn't worry, the rest of your flowers and your hair shouldn't come next to each other at all.
Reply:ok, fresh flowers that are wired will wilt in no time and won't look good all day! go with the silks, it doesn't matter if they don't match the real ones because you aren't going to be standing holding your bouquet up to your head, lol, or with your head beside floral arrangements period!
the silks are gorgeous, they will be gorgeous all day and it will be one less thing for you to worry about sweetie. ignore the florist on this one, just pop into michael's crafts or another shop and pick up a branch of orchids. your hair dresser can make it work for you and no one will be able to tell the difference between silk and fresh - especially in your hair.
p.s. the silk has the added bonus of not giving off a scent that will be in your face - so to speak! less chance of a headache!
have a great wedding and a happy marriage!
Reply:Whatever is easier for you! I think that no matter what it is an absolutely gorgeous hair style and will look just as beautiful if the flowers are real or not!
Reply:Delegate dear! You are the bride. Do you have Bride maids? If not a friend that can help out? If so have one of them swing by and pick up your perfectly matched/real orchids for your beautiful hairstyle. Don't forever look at your wedding photos and say, "ugh those fake orchids did not match...I wish I would have gotten the real ones".
Cogratulations on your wedding.
Reply:personal opinion, its ok to wear artificial if it's only one like the pic.
imagine having a natural flower... in your hair.!!
by the time of reception.. it may not hold up as good as artificial.
i would wear one
Reply:The florist is going to be on location that day anyways to drop off your bouquet so why cant he drop off the flowers then?
Reply:I would do the silk flowers. Like you said, you are going to have a lot going on that day, and by the end of the day the real flowers will start to wilt. If you have the silk, the will look fresh all day.
Reply:I would use the artificial flowers, they Do Not have to match perfectly, in fact I believe it would be better if it did not. The one thing I have found when doing wedding hair is, Not too big with the flowers in hair. Keep it on the smaller side and just blend it with the rest of the flowers. Hope I helped!
Reply:i would use silk flowers. real flowers pose all sorts of problems (from the pollen falling into your hair and making it look like you have dandruff, to them wilting because they're next to the heat of your head)......
either will look great, and i LOVE your hairstyle.

Artificial flowers at an outdoor ceremony?
I am getting married outside in a park and am renting white wooden chairs. Since everything has to be set up and taken back down immediately before and after the wedding, I'm thinking about just decorating the aisle row chairs with artificial kissing balls. Is this tacky? Fresh flowers would take too much time to set up and take back down. Would it be better to not decorate them at all?
Artificial flowers at an outdoor ceremony?
While I usually advise against putting artificial flowers and greenery into a natural setting, if you limit it to bouquets and the kissing balls, I think you could probably pull it off.
Definitely no large artificial arrangements, though!
Reply:artifical flowers are great and cost less and can do them a head time.i think it will look pretty. and add a touch of your personality to the ceremony. good luck!!
Reply:As long as they're a good quality of artificial, I don't see problem. Sometimes there less expensive than regulars ones.
Reply:You could get away with artificial flowers indoors, but they really don't make much sense outdoors. I'd usebeautiful satin ribbon instead, which is also romantic and can come in any colour or pattern to match your theme. Seeing as you're outdoors, you could also let the surroundings be your decor and not decorate at all!
Reply:try silk flowers they look real and are great keepsakes! my whle wedding was with silk and it was beautiful!
Reply:Fresh flowers can be a pain in the butt!!! I would definately go with the idea that you have. Do what is easiest on you.
Reply:ummmm...as long as they look pretty real you would be fine. What about like ribbons and bows and much less real flowers?

How does artificial lighting affect night blooming flowers?
If too much light is shined on them, do they not bloom? What are the effects?
Please help.
How does artificial lighting affect night blooming flowers?
It's the length of the dark period that makes the difference.
A Christmas cactus or Poinsettia, for example, won't bloom if you turn the lights on in the room. They must have the natural cycle of light and dark.
Night blooming cereus is also daylength sensitive. I don't know about all night blooming flowers.
Please help.

What are the best long lasting artificial flowers to use for a rarely attended grave?
Plastic. Don't use silk or paper. And use subdued colors (no bright white or yellow, as they will look dirty quickly. Put them in pots with foam blocks to keep them up away from the dirt.

How to clean a artificial flower made from rubber?
I have a artificial flowers made from rubber. It 's hard to clean up.
Last time I bought a salegirls said used powder to clean up. How to clean with powder , now so many dust at a flowers.
How to clean a artificial flower made from rubber?
dust and do not use anything that leaves a film
( dishwashing soap if needed ) do not use ANY furniture cleaner or wax they leave films
AFTER they are spotless use an anti-static spray - this will prevent future dust ( the rubber will become 'charged' from normal air movement)
Reply:soap %26amp; water
Reply:Alcohol and a little 'elbow grease'.
Reply:I've found that the best way is to use a virgin's urine mixed with equal parts baking soda. P.S. please don't report me on the basis of cultural differances.
Reply:Spray them with Windex or water.
Reply:a little vinegar with water will work wonders
Reply:take them out side and shake them hard like a rug
Reply:If the whole thing is made of rubber put it in the dishwasher or fill the sink up with a little dish washing soap and water and put the flower in the soapy water swish it around after letting it soak a bit. If it still is dirty then take an old toothbrush and gently clean it.
Hope this works.

Reply:use a clean make up brush.
Reply:Put them in the sink and use the sprayer on them. LIGHTLY and use a cloth to wipe and dry them. Sit them in a sunny spot to dry completely.

What do you think about artificial plants, flowers, etc? Do they LOOK fake?
Definate on som eof the above answers, that artificial plants they look fake, unless you spend a fortune on them!
Also they collect dust (no matter how much you paid) Tell tale sign of fake plants..dusty leaves! Bad for people with allergies, too.
One way to get away with fake - is to use them up high where they cant be inspected closely...and use real plants where they will be touched.

i love my fake flowers, you get what u pay for tho
Reply:the silk ones look nice. i don't do well with real plants so i use silk ones and i have several cactus that people think are real.
Reply:I think there are 2 problems with artificial plants looking fake. !. people buy a poor quality of plant and don't maintain them. they need care also. You must dust them and turn them occasionally so they don't fade on one side from the sun. 2. Don't just plop them in a container. Think of them as a real plant. The leaves should be shaped properly I.E. young leaves should be bent straight upward, reaching for the sun, as they would be in real life. I use the trick of mixing real with artificial.
Reply:not from 2 feet away. only if you take a close look.
Reply:Depends on where you get them and the quality. This is definitely a case for "you get what you pay for".
Reply:It depends on the brand. Artificial flowers are tacky, hands down. However, there is some artificial greenery that is semi-okay. The good kind usually costs more but it is worth it.
Reply:It depends on their quality.
A friend of mine refurnished recently her appartment and I was amazed by the beautiful plants and pots of flowers she bought. Provided she's a sales representative and could be long away from home, I asked her who was going to take care of this ...jungle and she replied laughing that they are artificial, made of raw silk and other fine materials, that's why she paid a lot of money.
Although I am in the plants, I could not tell the difference but when I went to the shop she told me, I saw very many different qualities and realized that if you do not want to have plants that look fake, you have to pay a lot of money.
Reply:Some are better than others, I prefer fresh flowers but its not always easy to get them, artificial flowers when maintained well looks fine. However remember that they are dust collectors and this gives them away as fake!
Reply:That depends on what kind you get. If you buy the cheap $1-a-bunch kind, then it's obvious that they're fake. If you go to a hobby shop and spend $5 on them, they'll look a lot better. Also, if you make an arrangement with artificial flowers, a dead giveaway that they're fake is if you allow dust to collect on them, which won't happen with real flowers because they wilt and die before too long.
Reply:Honestly, I think they are awful.
Reply:Look quite fake within a few feet. Look fine otherwise.

Is it ok to decorate your home with artificial flowers?
I would stay as far away from that as possible. Fake flowers are tacky. If you DO use them, keep them high or out of reach/smelling range. People always tend to make faces at artificial flowers when they find out they are not real.
Also, if you are hell-bent on it, then be sure to roatate new ones in or move the displays around so you don't draw attention to the fact that you've had the same dozen flowers in that same vase for thirteen years.

Yes, totally ok. There are some that look very real.
Reply:yep, its becoming a popular trend
Reply:Yes, but be sure to dust them often. Artificial flowers can really attract dust.
Reply:I watch alot of the home and garden shows and the interior designers say that artificial flowers went out of style in the early 90's. But I would guess if you like that sort of stuff, then it's ok.

Artificial Flowers Camillias?
I'm not familiar with this flower, but I can offer a suggestion. Try A.C.Moores or Michale's. They have a wide selection. You could also check with your local florist, to see if this flower is available in "silk". They could acquire it for you from their suppliers, if you order a whole box.

How do i clean artificial silk flowers?
I have 2 bouquets that my daughters had when they were bridesmaids 2 years ago but they now need cleaning any ideas thanks
How do i clean artificial silk flowers?
Most silk or fabric flowers are easy to keep clean by washing in a weak solution of washing up liquid in tepid water, rinse a couple of times in fresh, clean, cold water then shake as much moisture off as possible before hanging upside down to dry thoroughly in a warm room or outside if good weather or in the airing cupboard. Or you can try placing the flower in a bag of salt, give it a shake then remove flower and shake off all the tiny granules and you have a 'dry' cleaned bloom!
Reply:I have found the cans of compressed air that you buy to clean your keyboard of your computer works great. It will knock all of the dust off without affecting the shape of the arrangement.
Be careful though while using the can. It will get very cold and uncomfortable if you use it for extended periods. Wrap a towel or something around it to protect your hand.
Reply:sloosh them gently round a bowl of fabric softener.
Reply:Tepid soapy water, then shake and dry.
Reply:salt.......put sea salt on it and shake it off it pulls the dust off.also if you go to a craft store they have cleaner judt for this
Reply:Gently swish upside down in warm soapy water. Rinse the same way. gently shake off water and dry upright.
Reply:never tried it myself, but once read that if u put them in a plastic bag with salt and give it a shake then this will do the trick.
Reply:Put them in a brown paper bag with salt and shake for about 5 min.
Reply:the best way is to place flowers upside down in a plastic bag with a load of cooking salt. half a bag say. fix bag securely with elastic band around stems and give a good shake. the salt is abrasive and takes all dust away. also no risk of shrinkage or ruining shape of flowers. i've used this method on white silk lilys for years and they still look perfect.
Reply:We have old flowers that were given to our program to use here's what the elders did; they washed them with a little dish soap %26amp; 1 tsp of starch, then gently arranged them upside down on a dishwasher rack. The starch help to keep them stiff feeling %26amp; they look nearly brand new.
Reply:To clean silk flowers just take a damp cloth or paper towel and wipe each leaf/petal with it. It won't damage anything and it'll get the dust off. Plus, it dries really fast so you can wipe it down and put it back up in no time.
Reply:I prefer the canned air... quick spray every so often seems to get the job done, I did buy a solution from Michael's craft store some time ago.... and i dont think it worked any better than a bit of water would have.....
Best of Luck =)
Reply:I toss them in the dryer on its lowest setting with a damp towel and a fabric sheet
Reply:some of your husband's fresh sperm.
Reply:give them a shower and then let them air dry
Reply:Just fill your sink with hot water and dish soap (like you were doing dishes and swish them around. Then hang them upside to dry.
If you spray them with a little hair spray after they dry they will be much easier to clean next time as the dirt will cling to the hair spray instead of the flower itself.
Reply:Put a small amount of salt into a plastic bag, then put the heads and leaves of the flowers into it, seal as best you can and shake thoroughly, result, clean fresh flowers
Never use water as this loosens the heads and fades the silk
Reply:Pour some salt into a bag. Put the silk flowers head first into the bag. Hold the bag closed firmly and shake. After some shaking remove the silk flowers and gently shake off any excess salt. The salt will remove the dust/dirt etc and they should look good. I saw this as a tip from flower arrangers on the telly. Hope it helps.
Reply:Put some salt into a bag, place flowers in - petals down and holding the bag around the stem, give it a 'bally' good shaking. The salt grains will effectively scrub the petals without causing any damage and any salt left withing the petals will naturally liquefy and evaporate without causing damage.
Reply:I wash mine in warm soapy water then warm clean water then tip them up side down in a bucket and let them dry
Reply:I like the canned air ...BLOW the dust right off...Or dip in a little dish soap %26amp; water, rinse let dry...Thanks %26lt;:3 }~
Reply:Don't know how you clean them if they are really dirty BUT after you have cleaned them, blow them with a hairdryer every time you dust. This will blow the dust from them and stop them getting dirty again.
Reply:Soft damp cloth, wiping the petals. Also a duster could be useful.
Place items somewhere to dry, but not in direct sunlight, that could cause the flowers to fade!

How to clean/wash artificial flowers?
my mom has all these artificial flower arangements and she wants to clean them from dust and the flowers that are not in arangement also. is there any particular way of doing so or shall she just run them under water. aint there like a special spray she can use or something?
How to clean/wash artificial flowers?
blow dryer
Reply:If I don't want to mess up an "arrangement," I'll just remove the whole thing from it's container and hold it under the shower to remove dust. If not in an arrangement, just swish them around in some water in the tub, using soap on any if needed then rinsing.
Another thing she might want to try if not removing the arrangement, is to vacuum it but *through* something that will hold them in place while vacuuming....something like netting from a fabric store, or possibly cheesecloth, or even wire mesh, etc.

Reply:Michael's and most other craft stores sell both a spray and pump style of artificial flower cleaner.
Reply:Another idea I have used:
You can put them in a brown paper bag (like a shopping bag) and shake salt over it, then close the bag %26amp; shake it up really good to help knock of all the dust.
Reply:it may take a while but you need a bucket of soapy water and sponge you wipe over the tops and the bottoms of each leave or petel
Reply:Every six months or so I gather all the silk plants in my house and toss them in the washing machine with a little laundry soap. Use the gentle spin cycle. Don't put them in the dryer.
Reply:Silks Alive - you can buy it at most craft stores for about $4 a can. It's a spray and you don't have to take the arrangement apart to clean it. Just spray and it dissolves the dust!

Need Websites With Silk/Artificial Flowers for My Wedding and Flower Color Help?
I am getting married in May and have decided to use silk/artificial flowers. I'm not sure on colors, flowers, or where to get them. My dress is ivory with a champagne trim and my bridesmaids are champagne and maid of honor is latte. Groomsmen are wearing champagne vests and Groom and Best Man are wearing Mossy Oak/Camo vests. I need colors that will go with everyone. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I found one that I loved and I emailed it to these people asking if they could do it. They said no problem. I ordered a sample for $20 just to make sure I liked it. Good luck!

Web sites are helpful is far as designs, but I would bring swatches of your fabric colors with you to the actualy store to buy what you choose. Champagne may have different hues and still be called the same color. Many of the craft stores, like Old Time Pottery, Michaels, Ben Franklin, have staff right there that will make your Bouquets, etc, for a reasonable fee.

Reply:My sister got married last spring and asked me to find her inexpensive flowers for her bridal bouquet, ceremony decor and reception decor. I found www.afloral.com. We found a beautiful white gardenia wedding garland that we were able to hang across the ceiling of the reception hall because it was so cheap. They also had bouquets for all the girls in the ceremony flowers for the pews including clips to hang the flowers, white roses which we placed in julep cups and placed around the church. We ended up spending around $500 for a ton of flowers. My aunt even thought we spent over $10,000 for our wedding decorations and offered to help with the cost. She was blown away by the fact that in total for decorations we spent less than a $1000. The wedding was great. She thanks me for finding the site every time we sit in her family room and look at the flowers displayed on her fireplace mantel.

Is it tacky to use artificial flowers for wedding decoration?
I have a calla lily themed wedding. I found these beautiful silk calla lilies bushes that are going to be on a stand with ivy leaves hanging off the bottoms to decorate the church. The arrangements look beautiful and real....not cheap at all.
Is it tacky to use artificial flowers for wedding decoration?
I used artificial flowers at my wedding and no one could tell the difference until they touched them. I have terrible allergies and I was not going to go though the day with allergy eyes in all of the photographs.
I think especially at a church, they will look beautiful. You might even think about donating some of the decorations to the church so they can be used by someone who might not be able to afford the decorations or lilies can be used at Easter time.

Also made silk flower centerpieces and had pillar candles in the middle.

Silks last forever. You can always put them into different arrangements later on and you'll always have a piece of your special day at home.
Reply:I AM DOING THE SAME!!!!!! Lol, I love calla lillies but cannot afford the real ones, so I am getting false ones instead. Where are you getting them from? In a way it can be better because you get to keep them all - I know my sister was devastated when her bouquet died. But with a false one, they are the same forever! And you dont have to worry about them wilting or peope being allergic! Good luck :) and please let me know where you plan to get them from, it might be better than my place!! (ps mine is http://www.sarahsflowers.co.uk/bridesmai... and there are loads more than that one, just search throughout!!)
What's with the thumbs down? I havent done anything wrong!! :S
Reply:no, it's done all the time.
there are shops that specialize in doing bridal centerpieces and bouquets.
I did mine in artificial flowers and that way my bouquet lasted forever ( I didn't throw it - a non-traditional wedding)
Enjoy your special day !!

Reply:It should be an aside decoration, not the focus of the room. The only reason that it might be seen as tacky is that you're using something you already have as decoration for such a formal event. If you also use other, real calla lilies, there should be no problem.

Is it possible to clean dusty artificial flowers or do I toss them?
Put them in a paper bag with some salt. Shake them well and then shake the excess salt off. The salt removes all the dust. Hope this helps.
Is it possible to clean dusty artificial flowers or do I toss them?
I've put mine on the top rack of the dishwasher, and they've turned out beautifully.
Reply:Yes, you CAN clean them, %26amp; it's so simple! Put your flowers %26amp; one half of a cup of uncooked rice into a sturdy paper bag. Then just shake the bag around in every direction for 30 to 60 seconds, depending on how dirty your flowers are. Remove your flowers from the bag, %26amp; holding them upside down, shake them out over your garbage can to shake loose any remaining rice. You'll be surprised how clean this will get them!
Reply:To clean artificial flowers, place them in a paper bag with a handful of SALT or SAND and shake well. This will remove a lot of the dust. Shake them off well. If they need reshaping and are fabric or paper, warm up a teaspoon by dipping it into a pan of hot water, dry it off and press each petal on the bowl of the spoon.
OR - If they are made of anything that will withstand water, fill a sink or bucket with warm water and a small amount of detergent. Take each plant individually, hold it upside down and dip it into the water. Swish it a few times, give it a gentle shake to remove excess water, and replace it in its location. It's not hard to do, many office cleaning company workers do this to all of their client's fake plants %26amp; trees.
OR - Put the flowers in a box with pebbles and shake them. To dust them quickly use Dust remover spray cans that are for computers and electronic equip. It gives a strong blast and would do well in a pinch.
OR - If they are rose bush like flowers and are plastic in nature, you can also take them outside on a nice day. Spray the leaves with rubbing alcohol and water mixture out of spray bottle. When they are dry (15 minutes, slightly mist them with Orange Glo (you can use a car cleaning mitt to spread the Orange Glo). Clean and SHINY!
WARNINGS:
DO NOT use soap on them if they are fabric roses, this can fade them, cause the colors to bleed out of the pedals, and also cause holes in them if the detergent is too strong. I DO NOT recommend ANY soap on cloth flowers! This tip I got from a friend about using Dawn dish wahsing liquid, and it made my red roses a YUCKY color, and I had to buy more! I also DO NOT recommend using a vacume [even a hand held one] because they can SUCK the pedals RIGHT OFF the stems! You want to BLOW off the dust or shake it off some way, NOT suck it off. Fabric flowers attract dust, and the dust gets literally INTO the strands of the fabric's threads, this is why washing them will only PUSH the dust farther INTO the fabric dear.
Reply:If they're silk flowers you can gently wash them with something mild (like Ivory Liquid) and luke warm or cold water. You can run them under the tap if the water is not on with much force, suds them up with your hand or a sponge, and rinse them.
You just have to be careful with how roughly you handle them and careful that the water is not running too hard.
If they're very dusty you may want to remove any ribbons or lace (or else just be careful because the dirty water can get on the fabric, and stain - of course, you can use the suds to clean that too. Its just that ribbons/lace are harder to clean well than the flowers are.)
Try to keep too much water from getting to any place that has glue because too much water can make glued parts start to come apart. Also, try to keep the water up around the heads of the flowers rather than letting it soak into (even fake) stems and the base they're in.
If the flowers are plastic you can do the same thing, and you don't have to be quite as careful. If a piece falls off the stem you can just put it back.
Since you say "artificial" flowers I assume you're not talking about dried flowers.
Reply:I find that its pretty hard to get all of the dust off so I usally toss the. (#1 reason why I don't have many in my decor at home).

Reply:You can actually wash them with soap and water but ome artificial flowers get too dusty that is really hard to remove. if it is still dusty, just toss them away.

Reply:its possible, by soaking it in water. try to wipe it with wet tissue that has soap on it. and then soak it again to wash the soap away.
Reply:well i wouldnt chuck em id just wash em
Reply:You can use a hair dryer to blow the dust off- or, hold the flowers in a trash bag and shake whatever dust off that you can.
Reply:i spray them with the water hose outside then just let them dry in the sun

Reply:I would use my vacuum hose

Are artificial flowers ok for a wedding?
My step mother is having a fit because I am using artificial flowers for my wedding. My fiancee and I are over 35 and are not looking to spend tons of money on certain items...flowers being one of them. Also, I want to keep my bouquet which is another reason I chose artificial. We're not talking a huge elaborate wedding. Its relatively small..under 100 people. Am I being politically incorrect?
Are artificial flowers ok for a wedding?
Fake flowers last longer.
Reply:This is your wedding. If your step-mother is concerned that artificial flowers may look tacky, or whatever; perhaps, she would like to help out in the flower department.
You would be most grateful and appreciative because there are so many things to worry about and take care of in planning for a wedding.
Reply:well, as long as they are really realistic fake flowers, you're good.
Reply:Artificial flowers are fine. I myself had real flowers and by the end of pictures my wrist was killing me from holding my bouquet. I has tons of roses so it was very heavy. Who cares what your step mother thinks. It is not her wedding it is yours. Do whatever YOU want. This is your decision not hers.
Reply:don't worry about PC, do what you can afford to do.
your wedding doesn't have to be elaborate t be nice.
its your day, tell everyone else to go wiggle...

Reply:Of course it's perfectly OK to use silk flowers. That's what we had for our daughter's wedding. With her bouquet, the bridesmaid's bouquet, 2 mother's corsages, boutineers, toss bouquet and two arrangements for the church it only cost $240.00. They were absolutely beautiful. Everyone commented on how nice they were. She can keep them forever. We've had several friends who used live flowers, and they were wilted before the reception was even over. Good luck!!
Reply:It doesn't matter. It's YOUR wedding.
If your stepmom is paying for it, then let her have some of her way on this. But, like for the bouquet you want to keep, she should let you have YOUR way on this one.
By the way, those nice, silk flowers can look exquisite, and make great table centerpieces that guests can take home as a memento.
Reply:no ur not. the best thing to do ESPECIALLY if u wanna keep ur bouquet is use artificial. just explain to her y u wanna use artificial. lots of ppl use artificial flowers its not that big of a deal. and if she insists that u use real flowers then tell her that ull use them if she buys them.
Reply:We had artificial flowers for our wedding and it was fine. Our local florist actually arranged them in bouquets for us and added live ivy and greenery to them. Your step-mother needs to get a grip!

or, to make her happy...use both.

That way you are saying to her that you recognize the fact that she's being a big baby and you hope that makes her feel better. You don't even need to say anything except, "See.. they are real."

Reply:Ok. I am not supersticious..but I have to say I heard somewhere someplace in some time..that u should only use live ...fresh cut flowers on a wedding...because a wedding is a journey a new life together as a couple..its like the beginning of new life.....and artificial flowers..are like the oppossite ..they are not dead..but fake...so see what I am saying?...I am not saying to be supersticious I am not at all..but there is simply nothing ..like fresh ..natural fowers on any event..something for you both to ponder about. Overlook prices..and places that offer this arrangements....look in to diverse flowers..that may not make u waste tons of money..u do not have to overload the church ..and at the reception. can have nice centerpieces..made with flowers and candles...good luck!
Reply:Nope. I too, had artificial flowers at my wedding.(because my husband is really, really allergic!) ..and you know what? My flowers were beautiful! I had flowers everywhere. My bouquet was beautiful and I got to keep it. Everyone complimented my flowers.
In fact one of my friends got married two weeks after I did with real flowers and to this day she loves to look at my bouquet, as hers even though she took it to a professional was dried and looks dead.
You can have lots of fun and have lots of different options with silk flowers! I loved my flowers and I can still look at them whenever i want.
Good luck! I wish you lots of love, laughter and happiness!
:)
Reply:That is totally fine. Less expensive and you can have people take them home with them.IF you have them in a vase. Its good decor for the home or office. And they last forever!! :) This is your wedding and your not 5 anymore. Do what makes you and your fiance happy!! OR you'll never be happy if you do it her way. Good luck and Congrats
Reply:Artificial flowers are not just OK for a wedding they are great. We had them and they were lovely and our guests had nothing but compliments for them. They lasted longer, too. In fact, the kids were "playing" with the bridal bouquet after I tossed it and it stayed together and looked lovely. We went to a wedding recently and the bride's real flower bouquet was falling apart before the end of the wedding!! We ordered ours online at:
thebridesbouquet.com.
Reply:You're making a choice that works for you. There's nothing morally superior or inferior about artificial flowers; there's just what makes sense for you.
Oh, and my sister-in-law used artificial flowers at her outdoor wedding twenty-one years ago. She wanted roses but was allergic to them. The bouquets and floral headbands looked just fine, even out of doors.
Everyone has different priorities when it comes to weddings. Make your choice and stick with it. A bouquet of artificial flowers will last a very long time without any special preservation or packaging...which is something you can't say for one of real flowers.
Reply:Not only is this YOUR wedding, meaning YOU get to pick what you want and not your step-mother, but artificial flowers are very practical and the best choice. I honestly don't understand why some one would spend thousands of dollars on a bunch of flowers that are for ONE occasion and will end up dying any way. With artificial flowers, you can do just about anything and even use them later for other events. Not to mention the price difference! Tell your step mother to get over herself and let you do what YOU want for YOUR wedding!
Congrats and good luck!
Reply:They are absolutely Ok as long as you get the good ones from like Hobby Lobby.
Its when you get the super cheap ones from the dollar store that scream "Fake" from across the room that it looks tacky.
Reply:um... well i would definitely prefer real flowers but it's honestly up to you. i suggest to get a cheep assortment that still looks good, and make your bouquet fake... or vice versa since you can always dry the flowers in your bouquet. k,well i hope i helped.
Reply:Politically incorrect!? Have you actually bought all this PC crap that it even appears in your wedding plans? It's your wedding. You and your future husband have decided it this way. Forget what your dear mother-in-law says, they're always in your business, and do what you think is right. Regardless of what you do anyway, there will always be ******* that think this and that could have been better, nicer, more expensive and so on, so just satisfy yourselves and forget the rest of the back seat drivers. Pffft!!!!

Pffft!!!!

What type of artificial (fake) flowers look the best?
My sister is getting married at a location that is about a 9 hour drive (no option to fly) and we do not want to deal with transporting real flowers since we already have to transport the cake!
What type of artificial (fake) flowers look the best?
Artificial silk flower.
Reply:Anthurium . Because the true one or the genuine one looks like plastic.. So, whether iut's fake or original.. can hardly figure out. :)
Reply:there is a company called SIA that makes very realistic-looking flowers. Not sure where you can buy them in the states, but they're definitely the best
Reply:if you ask me, none of them look good but if i had to choose, silk ones generally look better.

What is the gel called that is used in vases of artificial flowers?
I've heard it referred to as Wonder Water gel. I know you can also get crystals that turn into a Water-like gel when you add water to them. Not sure though, so best to have a look on the web.
What is the gel called that is used in vases of artificial flowers?
I think its called silica gel or something like that, I was trained as a florist but when I was practicing it was very new and we still used Oasis or floral foam,
Oh and to the person who thought OASIS the band came from Manchester I think it was Liverpool wasn't? Or am I tginking of someone else.
Reply:Floral foam?
Reply:look for "crystal soil" on your search engine.
By the way this is not only for articficial plants, as it is a very water - absorbent powder that turns into gel by adding water (200 times bigger than the original powder)and holds the water for the plants for a long time.
It is not the same as silica gel, that is the kind of stuff you find in small sachets in clothes or bags etc, it doesn't expand, it only absorbs moisture from the air.
Reply:silica gel, it soaks up any moisture, it is used in loads of things to keep them dry.
Reply:If you are looking for the stuff that hardens and looks like water, it is called Everlasting Elegance and is available at Michael's and other craft stores.

I have 2 baskets of artificial flowers that I need to clean. What is the proper way to clean them?
They don't feel like silk, but a different material.
I have 2 baskets of artificial flowers that I need to clean. What is the proper way to clean them?
Put them in a bag with about a 1/4 cup of table salt and shake. That is the best way to clean the dust off of cloth flowers. Throw them in baskets %26amp; all, it will even remove the dust from the wicker.
Reply:I spray them with Windex let it sit for a few mins. Then I spray them down with hot water. Report It
Reply:Feather Duster
Reply:I USE PLEDGE AND A RAG
Reply:Under normal conditions, dry dust accumulation can be removed rather easily with a feather duster or hair dryer. For the tougher dust, use an artificial flower and foliage spray cleaner. Sold at many stores, including walmart, target, kmart, etc.
Reply:TAKE A HAIR DRYER AND BLOW OFF THE DUST, THEN VACUUM YOUR FLOOR.
Reply:fill the sink w/water and a little soap....swoosh the flowers around and then rinse (not full blast or the pedals will fall off) place in a vase to dry (don't dry flat..that will mess up the flowers) I clean mine a couple times a year...Good Luck
Reply:i have just put them in the sink and spray them with water to clean them.
Reply:My grandmother always used baby oil on the plastic kind. There is an actual artificial plant cleaner that most mass merchandise stores carry. If you can't find it there you can probably check with a florist.
Reply:Before the invention of "silk splenda" an artificial flower cleaner available at JoAnn Fabric Store and probably Michael's Crafts store; I would shake them in a brown paper bag with plenty of salt. ? It worked ok, but kind of rough on fragile flowers. But the cleaner mentioned in above works with the flowers right in their vase. I put mine in the bathtub and spray all over; shake off excess liquid and they dry looking brand new!

this will tell you how to clean them.

How do you clean artificial flowers?
A friend told me to use one of those cans they use for computers that blows out air. She said it worked really good cleaning hers. Just take it outside to do it, or run it under water.
Reply:There are those special sprays they sell at office stores, such as Office Max, Office Depot, etc. It's a powerful air spray that removes all the dust fast. After that, you can clean the flower with a dump paper towel.
Reply:You can shake them - gently - in a cloth bag, together with some common table salt. Most of the dirt will shake out along with the salt afterwards.
Reply:You can clean them buy spraying them first with hairspray and let it dry then blow dry them and this will remove all dirt and they will look good as new. Easy and works everytime.
Reply:The way I clean mine is in some warm soapy water and carefully wipe with a cloth if possible, them hang them up side down out side in the shade so they don't fade.
Reply:Blow them off with a hair dryer, outside if possible to keep the dust from drifting around inside the house.
Reply:I have sprayed mine off with the hose before. Then I just let them sun dry

Is it safe to put artificial flowers in a fish tank?
Like fake orchids from wal-mart or the dollar store. Sometimes I see some really nice ones and know they would look so exotic and cool in the tank. But would they degrade in the water, or poison the fish with the glue used to attach them to the stem? Anybody else ever done this?
Is it safe to put artificial flowers in a fish tank?
I know lots of people do it, but I wouldn't. You just never know what materials were used in the manufacturing process.
MM
Reply:Fish tanks are fussy things. First you should remember what it is your trying to do. You are trying to creating a natural environment for your fish. I am an avid fisherman and I have never seen silk or plastic flowers in the ocean unless someone has thrown them in the water. The best advice I could give you is to go to your local pet shop. Then buy either real plants or the artificial ones they sell there. They also have a verity of ornaments to make you tank look like the bottom of a lake or an underwater paradise. The flowers that they sell at wal-mart or the dollar store are not made for a fish tank...Best of luck with your tank...
Reply:Do you mean like the fake flowers for vases and stuff? I know of lots of people who do it without any ill effects.
Reply:You can use the ones specifically made for fish tank use. Don't use the ones because they often will have paint, dyes, perfumes and other things on or in them that will leech into the tank water which may be toxic or damaging to your fish. With time, anything kept underwater is also going to get a coat of algae on it too. Most of the not made for fish tanks plants also don't have completely covered plastic stems so any exposed metal is going to corrode in water, possibly poisoning your tank.
Reply:Artificial plants are presumably safe. Most are made of plastic, which does not degrade, erode, or break down.
However, make sure they are aquarium safe. Some use harmful chemicals in the manufacturing process that could go into your aquarium.
I've used artificial plants in my saltwater tank for several years. Not only do they give more beauty, but provide a resting place for some types of fish. My blue tang slept between the "stems" of an artificial plant for months until he was too big to hide there.
I believe they are safe. The ones I have, I bought them from the local pet store and from Meijers.
There should be no glues used making these. If you bought some you would see that. Almost all are produced with injection molding. The stems and leaves and different parts are held together with a kind of ball joint. It's hard to describe, exactly, but if you spent $2, you will see for yourself.
Reply:You can buy lots of fake plants for the aquarium, but I'm not so sure about the ones you mentioned. If they use hot glue, it shouldn't be a problem. But some other glues might be bad.
Reply:yes its safe
Reply:yes you can put fake plants in a fish tank it would not harm the fish or do anything to the water. just make sure that you rinse them off before you put them into the tank.
Reply:Yeah. Companies like Tetra make plastic plants. They are much less easier to care for, and require hardly any care, although real plants filter the water
Reply:do you mean fake plants if you do don't worry loads of people have fake plants in their aquarium put i would get real ones they are much more realistic and you can buy big ones and they let of oxygen

How do I safely clean artificial flowers?
White flowers turned yellow from cigarette smoke.
Flowers are permanently glued in a vase with green leaves.
I do not want to ruin the leaves or vase by spraying bleach.
What else can I use?
How do I safely clean artificial flowers?
If you are afraid to use water and a mild soap, because you think that you will destroy them, then you can go to a specialized shop (or even visit an e-shop at e-bay or amazon) and have a look for a specific product. Just be sure not to spend more than what the entire pot with with the flowers costs.
Usually, dry cleaning is working in "fresh dirty".

Reply:You can get one of those special cleaners, but I've found that just swooshing them around in a sink with a mild detergent works just fine. Since yours are glued in, it might be a bit awkward, but I believe it's do-able. Just grab the vase with one hand, the stems with the other, invert and swoosh the flowers only, not the vase.

Can you dye artificial white flowers blue?
I can not find baby blue roses, that are not an arm and a leg. So I was wondering if I could dye artificial flowers blue. I need them for my center pieces in my wedding, August 4 2007
Thanks for the help
Can you dye artificial white flowers blue?
I am sure that you can. Ask a florist first. They should be able to tell you without charging. MY homemade suggestion is to either find a HObby Lobby 1/2 price sale or take a bowl of water and mix in food coloring and then dip in the flowers. Dry upside down so teh stems stay the correct color!
Congrats! My wedding is on the 25th!

Reply:Yes, of course. There's a spray you can get at the craft store. Or check a floral shop, or where they sell wedding crafts - depending upon what you have around your area.
Reply:If the flowers are made of fabric, you should be able to dye them. How blue they get will depend upon the type of fabric you have. Try one and see first what the result is. I did it with a chiffon corsage for a wedding. The flowers came out a pale blue, which was fine for the occasion. Rit dye is available, but my first choice would be to find a silk dye made specifically for natural fibers (if your fabric is not synthetic.) You have a lot of time to experiment, thankfully.
Reply:of course!
Reply:Dont see why you couldnt...Go to a craft store and ask.
Reply:Actually you can spray paint them. They make a special kind of spray paint for this. Ask about it at Hobby Lobby or Michael's. It is pricier than regular spray paint, but it goes a long way.
Before you spray them, put painter's tape over the stem %26amp; leaves.
It works really well; I've done it a hundred times!

Is it tacky to "plant" artificial flowers outside your house?
I've found a site online that sells high-quality, weather-proof, artificial flowers. They are expensive, but they last for a long time. I want to plant a few along the front of the house and in some window boxes from second floor windows. Is this tacky? I'm not a gardening girl, to me its just another chore.
Is it tacky to "plant" artificial flowers outside your house?
'I guess it's up to the individual, I personally wouldn't do it. To me it's like putting pink flamingos in the front yard with bleach bottle windmills.
If you don't like gardening and the "chore" of it, why not try some small size flowering shrubs. With very little or no maintenance.
What ever you decide

Reply:Fake plants are just that. Fake. Now add tacky, unsightly, and unscented. sign of a lazy gardener or one with black thumbs, reminds me of graveyards. Only real flora need apply at my house.
Reply:i think it's very tacky, just my personal opinion. i would rather leave something bare than have artificial flowers. try decorating outside with birdhouses, birdbaths, something that can just sit and look nice with little maintence...
Reply:Personally, I think artificial outside is tacky. Maybe these are realistic looking, who knows. I prefer the real thing, its kinda therapeutic to water and weed and play in the dirt. But that's just me. Happy Planting or sticking...
Reply:I personally would not do it. You said about putting them on the 2nd floor windows...you may not really be able to tell from the ground that they are artificial. do not "plant" them in the dirt on the ground level. That would just look silly, sort of something like my grandmother would do. but I can honestly say try it on the 2nd floor. Just make sure you change the flowers with the season. You obviously would not have tulips out there in October, change it to mums for fall and poinsettias for winter. I've seen that and it doesnt look half bad. Good luck.
Reply:I think it all just depends on how the artifical plants look. If you get something cheap then of course it will look tacky.
Reply:I think so. I've seen some people here that have done it, and it never looks right. I suppose it comes down to what you think of it. I'm not into gardening either. So I just buy plants that are already potted, or pot them myself, and stick them on the patio and porches. I water them and give them plant food, but other than that...if they die, I just go get more.
Reply:It all depends on the individual. I personally would not do that, but if you like it then go ahead. If you can find nice faux plants for your window box then go ahead. I might suggest that you consider the seasons though and not have brightly colored plants during winter. You could get different plants for each season and rotate them out. Like bright flowers for spring and summer, Mums and autumn colored plants for Autumn, and maybe some thing Christmasy like Poinsettias and Mistletoe for the winter months. If you make it an event then it would probably be cute and work out well for you.
Oh...what's that called? Selective ??? something or other...hmmm, I'll get back to you on that...Scotty Doll ;P... hehehe
Reply:It's funny, you drive past a cemetery, and your mind automatically says artificial flowers. When I take an artificial bouquet apart and stick the flowers in blank spaces in a bed of real ones either people don't notice at all or want to know the name of the flower. RScott
Good Luck!

How do I keep artificial flowers from fading in the sun?
I have a terrible green thumb, and to avoid killing plants I have simply put artificial flowers in my flower boxes. They look nice at first but after about two months I have to replace them. Is there anything that I can put on them to keep them looking new?
How do I keep artificial flowers from fading in the sun?
You can't. Just replace them every so often.
Good Luck!
Reply:The way you are going you'll soon be using colour photocopies. Why don't you just learn the best way for plants to grow is to leave them alone. Get one of those little devices you stick in the soil to tell you when to water and that's it. Don't use tap water unless you let it breathe for a day to get rid of the chlorine. Don't use fertilizer.

Artificial Flowers?
What is an easy/home made way to clean artificial flowers? These are the silk kind. They are in a small ceramic bowl and won't come out. How can I clean them without messing up the arrangement?? any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Artificial Flowers?
The salt idea works if you do not have a complicated arrangement. Otherwise, you will be finding salt around it and coming out of it for months to come. It gets caught in the blooms and is a nightmare later, but that is the only way to get the salt to totally clean the arrangement.
If it is only dusty, use canned air. You can get it at the computer stores and in the big box discounters. Blast the dust off and use the tube attachment to get into the blooms.
If it is really dirty and just blasting leaves a dirty residue on the flowers, use Silk Flower Cleaner, available for $1.99 at the craft stores (it is cheaper here than at the florists). A word of caution using the cleaner, however. Either put it in the sink when treating it or take it outside, surround it with plastic and then spray it or you will have a mess. I like to do mine outside when it is sunny and warm because it dries faster. That being said, you have to saturate the blooms and leaves until they are dripping and those drips are filthy. You stop spraying once the drips run clear. If you choose the sink method, you can hit it with a blow-dryer set on low to dry it faster.
Reply:Wash them with a moist cloth.
Reply:Pour salt over the whole container; into a bag then holding onto the container upside down in the bag, shake thoroughly, the salt should be very dirty when you are done.
Reply:There is a spray that you can get from any floral department at the grocery store. You just spray it on and that's it. Just go and ask them for it.
